I don't think anybody will have to knife Nelson, it's only a matter of time before Nelson hangs himself on his own inconsistency- he has no idea what he stands for or why.
At least he and his party have one common characteristic, the pursuit of power and wealth without moral reservation.

It wont surprise me if Brendan Nelson last 12 months the same with Julie Bishop, mainly because of being tagged with the same brush of doing things the Howard way.
Both will be rolled before the next election

Would imagine whomever was leader is going to get bagged in one way or another........and don't forget the labour party has not been immune to backstabbing to further ones career. Plenty of entertaining history here so the battles of John Howard/Andrew Peacock were not alone.

Generally the first opposition leader after an election defeat is a caretaker until somebody else gets the job. My wife attended a meeting just before the election and she had only positive words about Brendan Nelson, including the statement that he is a PM material. His alleged past association with unions has nothing to do with his current and future position as a new Liberal leader and perhaps a contender to the PM position. If I have to choose between the Rocky Rudd years or the Lively Liberal years, I choose the Liberals with any of the current talented candidates for leadership. Rudd will run out of luck when his speech writers and spin doctors run out of slogans and ink.

Gershon ben david- It is not alleged that he was once associated with a union it is common knowledge not only was he a card carrying member of a union he was a member of the labor party. He will be stabbed in the back in about 12 months as Labor will be relentless in question time attacking the Opposition leaders past associations.

by Government Cheese is BACK!!!!! ~~~ holy cow and SOME americans wonder why SOME of the rest of the world's population DON'T LIKE AMERICANS ...
fortunately .. I know enough NICE POLITE AMERICAS to know that "by Government Cheese is BACK!!!!! " is a sofy variety of cheese .. a little mouldy around the edges .. and WAY out of touch
OH and btw PLEASE don't tell me to go eat a kangaroo .. I had roo the night before last and i am not due to have it again until the weekend.. It's a nice gamey meat, a tad rich for the likes of some, beautiful in a red wine herb and garlic marinade.. VERY low in cholesterol and low in fat.. also very little methane is produced by roos unlike beef cattle
BUT back to the Q....
I actually HOPE that the Opposition (gee that sounds good) actually group together strongly and form a strong (but sensible) opposition .. we need balance ..
No matter who is in power.
EDIT : did cheese guy melt away ?? chicken

Could hardly believe it when I heard it ~ what a laugh.
Well, it should at least be entertaining, hehehe.
Cheers! :-)
PS: Cheese guy ~ you can set your controls to 'US questions only' by going to the Y!A home page. I wish (some) US users would learn this, as Aussies do NOT have the option to exclude US questions!!!!
Cheese guy: Yeah, easier to whine than to act! Or don't you know how to get to the home page? You should ask.

I would be more worried if I was Kevin Rudd. Have you noticed how in question time that he never turns his back on his own front bench, there's a reason for that.
And it's not just that he's ignorant.
