Hmmm....well it IS a proven fact that global warming is occurring, but the problem is that doesn't necessarily mean it is due to anything humans are doing on this planet. And that's the mistake so many people make: they automatically seem to think WE humans are the problem. But THAT part has never been proven.

for the last time.... you can NOT tell whether global warming is real by how it feels outside. I am sick and TIRED of people saying "man it sure is hot outside, must be global warming" or it could be ******* summer you dipshit. Maybe it being winter had something to with it being cold. Eh? MAYBE? JUST A LITTLE? There is NO QUESTION that the earth is warming. The question is ARE PEOPLE CAUSING IT? I think not. I think that it is a part of the natural cycle of the earth's climate. Maybe people affect it a little, but if so they're not doing much, and money spent on all this global warming crap is money that could have fed starving kittens or something more useful. Most people, by which I mean 99.9%, have never seen a record of the temperatures for the last million years. All we can see far back is huge changes, but in more recent years we can use more accurate methods such as varve counting and dendrochronology, and deep sea cores. The climate fluctuates a lot more than you think. Did you know about the "Little ice age" from the middle ages? Did you even know that there could be little ice ages? It only lasted 200 years and it wasn't a full blown ice age but it made the world quite a bit colder. Looking at the most recent temperatures over the last 10000 years I have seen no reason to assume that the earth should not be warming right now. You can say that you believe we are due for a cooling or a warming, but the fact is that global long term climate change prediction is not exactly down to a science at all.

The most worrying thing I've read about global warming is this:
When the temp of the sea gets up to a certain level (Not much above what it is now), there are HUGE HHUUGGEE Methane deposits under it that are liquid now but will become gas.
It only takes a degree or two but when the methane goes gaseous, it ALL turns to gas and rises through the sea, into the atmosphere. It will make global warming go absolutely potty! No amount of Green-ism will help - we'll all just be 3ukd (Sorry, finished).
Lack of understanding like yours is exactly why the problem is such a big one - almost NOBODY can believe our lovely world could turn so bad but, apparently, there's no reason why it shouldn't! Afterall, ice-ages are an absolute scientific certainty - why can't it go the other way?
I don't mean to rant, that's just how it came out :)
PS - solution to the cold - live somewhere warmer?
PPS - I SO hope there aren't idiots out there who fatuously over-use the "it's cold here" excuse to do nothing about the greenhouse effect but there almost certainly are.

I don't know, but I was at an estee lauder store at the mall buying my wife a gift, and saw this on the shelf.
http://www.amazon.com/Earth-Global-Warming-Survival-Handbook/dp/159486781X
And noticed the last name (pretty uncommon to most people).
David de Rothschild is the name of several members of the renowned family of bankers founded by Mayer Amschel Rothschild family. - The founder of which once stated "Permit me to issue and control the money of a nation, and I care not who makes its laws." Lo and behold, half a century after that quote, the federal reserve was created.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Mayer_de_Rothschild
The most irritating thing about this book is that it is based, not on scientific investigation, but on the quarterlife crisis of some long-haired middle-class rich boy. The author is David de Rothschild - and yes, he’s a member of the super-wealthy Rothschild banking family. These are the kind of people now telling the rest of us to live in little houses and reduce our "carbon footprint". Then there is George Soros, don't even get me started - http://www.georgesoros.com/inconvenient .
Yes, I think global warming might be real, but I don't think we actually affect it that much. I am willing to leave an open mind. I am not willing to throw the baby out with the bathwater at the sound of "the sky is falling" however.
And before anyone has any stupid tinfoil hat jokes, how about this. If everyone wore one there would be no significant global warming, as enough sunlight + IR energy would be reflected back into space. Ha!

I'm a reluctant believer. I took the total tonnage of coal, oil and natural gas consumed world wide, totaled what I knew about historical data since the start of the Industrial revolution, made some assumptions about the percentages of carbon in each, combined it with O2 to get CO2 and compared that number with NASA's figure for %CO2 increase in the Earth's atmosphere and got comparable answers. Close enough for back of the envelope stuff that I'm forced to reluctantly agree that it probably exists and we are responsible.
As far as what to do about it, I still think Solar Power Satellites to run a hydrogen based economy are the best way to go. I will not back any solution that does not permit the continuation of a high tech civilization that all people on earth may join in with or that requires genocide to reduce the earth's population as part of the cure.

I live in Nevada, and usually we have inches of snow by now. But gradually over the last 5 years (but really for way longer than that) it has been getting warmer and warmer. We have had no snow, no rain- 50degrees outside.
Somethings going on. Whether it's global warming or not, there's definately a change. I think we should be open to the idea that it is true, just as much as to the idea that it just might not be

Problem with global warming...isnt whehter its happening or not... but that the global warming facts are mostly based on data that is mostly invalid..
such as the temp variations of the last 1000 years is using one tree's rings instead of a variety of location and sources.
This makes the temp variation part of global warming totally invalid.
ICE: melint in Northpole...
Ok, what about the fact that we have increases in ice elsewhere...with a world net increase of ice.

Ive heard this "not at my house" logic over and over. What part of the word "global" do you not understand? Global warming or climate change as it is now being called is a planetary condition that is happening slowly over the course of many years. Just because it is still cold in Frostytown, Minnesota, doesn't mean it isnt happening. The idea is to reverse the trend now so that our great great children can enjoy the outdoors without having to put on the sunblock 9000. And I dont want to have to re-learn geography when Im 65 because 30% of the world's landmasses have been buried underwater. So tell me now if you are going to continue ignoring the problems so I can begin investing now in what will be the oceanfront property of the future: Nevada & Utah:

So many idiots and so little to do with their time. Yes we need to look after our environment! NO, the world isn't warming as has been stated. Throwing fear at everyone does 2 things:
1) Creates panic as there isn't anywhere else to go.
2) Puts money in the pockets of the fear throwers.
An ice berg forms in the Antarctic Ocean and the Polar cap is melting! The thermastat broke at work. The World is burning up! A trees leaves went brown near the end of Summer and the Climate is drastically heating up. Here is one million dollars, please campaign for us and make the world better! Mr Gore says "one million, I wouldn't get out of bed for one million!" We say "Fine, here's 5 Million!" Mr Gore replies, "Here's a bandaid!" No money involved, No Global warming problem anymore!

You are a close-minded, ignorant idiot. Why don't you get off your butt, stop watching FOX news, and go do some research! The truth is that there is a scientific CONSENSUS that global warming is occuring at an alarming rate, and it is caused by human activity. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change is made of the best climate scientists in the world. They have been studying this issue for many years, and they have reached a consensus: we need to take action NOW, and reduce our greenhouse gas emissions or face dire consequences. You are so stupid, it's unbelieveable. People like you just make me so angry. GET A BRAIN

The world has been changing since time began and it will continue to change.
We don't have a magic wand and we are tiny specks here on earth.
There will never, never be technology to make the climate change.
The climate goes in 7 year cycles.
We should conserve and we should do what we can to keep the environment clean, like our water and air.
I'm willing to do what I can and I don't want someone like Al Gore scaring the school children to death telling them that there will be flood and fire etc.
A judge ruled in England that if the schools show his movie Inconvenient Truth, that they have to tell the kids before hand and point out each lie he has told in the movie.
It's propaganda.
The carbon credits get the rich off the hook and the they want the little guy to move back to cave life.
You are absolutely right. It's horse crap.
Very good question. Thanks.
