Roosters crow for some reasons such as: a way to make several CALLS, to proclaim his territory, show their dominance over all the rest of the chickens, or to signal where they are.

Roosters usually crow at the break of dawn upon noting the first random light but they could also crow at any time of the day and even on bright moonlit night. Take note too that roosters tend to crow too when they are distressed or in heat.

About your rooster crowing all night long, perhaps it has gone OLD or has partially lost some of its senses losing its ability to have proper JUDGMENT of the right time, territory and dominance. "SENILE" roosters tend to behave a bit strange. Defects in its VISION or presence of any STRESSFUL FACTORS may also be the cause.

Anyway, if it continues to crow all night long, start BOILING WATER so that you can have some peaceful nights.

Haha. Actually I read in a book of useless information, that for some reason some roosters are nocturnal because they were born at night. It's not really a stupid question. It's sort of like asking why does a cow go lay in the grass field when it's about to rain. HAHAHA.

He wants to be boiled. That's why he crows!

It is just like any bird, the song of territorality. The crow to announmce they are present and taking care of the flock. Attracting the hens, all that sort of thing.

If you have more than one rooster he is probably just working overtime trying to be #1.

I say cook him.

Roosters are male birds, and they use their crow exactly like most other bird use their song, to warn rivals and to attract mates.
That one particular rooster might be an insomniac, if the light from outside reach his coop, he might be tricked to think that it is already dawn.
