I am behind Red Chrome's answer, in anticipation of justice not being done, and how sad and dangerous that could be.
I think that most of us are anticipating perversion of justice here, as we have watched it leading up to this.
I don't agree that not one Portuguese citizen has been harmed in this process.
For one, Robert Murat, considered half Portuguese, has been harmed by being fingered as a perpetrator and scape goat by the McCanns. If he had anything to do with the McCann deceit, he's an idiot. But, I don't believe that anyone, who has comitted himself to a country as his chosen abode, would allow a deception to go this far that it would destroy his family just to protect the McCanns. I believe that there's an ace card waiting in Murat. And I think the PJ know that.
They're just waiting to pull it.
For another, the Algarve tourist industry has been greatly impacted by the deeds of this intransigent couple and their holiday friends,
Another way that the Portuguese have been harmed by this debacle is, not only has their credibilty been eroded as a civilized European country and tourist destination, but as a credible force in policing its people.
Do not underestimate the pride that underlies these issues.
The Portuguese will not succumb to bullying by another European country that dares to imply that it is uncivilized.
They will prove their point, one way or another, that a gross infraction of the law has been committed within their borders, and they will not let that go unchecked
I do not think that the Portuguese authorities will let this slide into oblivion, if only for the pride of their people.
They will not let a bunch of arrogant British hustlers denounce their country's moral core.
It is indeed D-day for the McCanns, and I sincerely hope that it becomes DNA-day for them too.

The people have spoken (as least here in Yahoo Answers).
The Sun has spoken -- and we know what normally that means...
Now let's see of Madam Justice will now speak, holding the scales of JUSTICE.
What I fear is that they will be "cleared" of involvement and if they are, they'll have to live with whatever they did for the rest of their lives. The final analysis is this... the Portuguese Police is trying to solve a crime... the disappearance or murder of a British citizen... No Portuguese person has been harmed in this whole affair. If JUstive does not prevail... then that's sad and if the people do not see Justice being done then that's... dangerous !

I am waiting for vital clues since it all began. This is getting more fishier as time goes on. I don't believe what the papers say. They would do anything to boost their paper sales. I would like to see some facts for a change.

If they harmed their daughter, then they should be prosecuted. But if they didn't, then we should remember that they are distressed parents who have lost a child. And we should treat them with compassion and respect.
There is no jubilation in this case, no happy ending.

Now we also hear that the PJ want to speak to the McCanns whilst they are here. I just hope we soon get the truth out of this lot.

I wish it was all over for the serial Internet hate campaigners. The McCanns are Innocent and they should get an apology from the Portuguese police who are using the this as an excuse for a Xmas visit to the UK.

I'm not going to hold my breath, I don't believe this case will ever be closed and the guilty charged.
thebigkahuna i think you need to wake up, there is no proof she was ABDUCTED like you are stating as if it is true!

Apart from the fact that this is the Sun, you missed out a key paragraph:
"The meeting is likely to decide whether Kate and Gerry McCann are charged with manslaughter – or cleared of involvement in their daughter’s disappearance."
My best guess is that they will be cleared.

Lets hope so.
I will really enjoy seeing this vile couple squirm.
I'm looking forward to the trial already when the whole tatty tawdry truth will ooze out from their decaying tissue of lies.
I'm hoping for at least 5 years each, 1-2 years for the other lying tapas crew.
But best of all I am hoping that once they are released from Portuguese prison they face another trial for fraud in the UK.
Lets hope they get another 5 years for that.
Oh yes..a lot of enjoyable suffering to be watched in the comming months.
Part of the fun will be seeing all the toadies fall away.
People like Justine will be trying to limit damage.
Wont it be fun to see whether ever Clarence faces up to the awful truth?
And Faith....what of her? do you think she will ever be seen in public again?
What about big fat loud mouthed self apponted expert Philomena? Do you think she'll shut up?
Oh Yes....
Bring it on....
Fun FUN FUN.
