You watch too much movies man. I'm pretty sure you saw that on that hollywood bullwash "Tokyo" Drift? Most of that movie was filmed in and around Los Angeles.

Depends on the circumstances, not to mention with traffic if you can get up to that speed in the first place, then if you can beat the police speed cameras, then the police motors quads, if you pose a risk to the public yeah the police will chase you.

Yeah i think you can go up to that speed after 12:00pm in the night, but it's not true that the police won't chase you because the police cars in Japan are quite advanced. However, Tokyo drift was not completely based on fiction, there are some facts in it that are true. You will find a number of japanese kids who do drive posh sports cars like the ones in the movie. I've been to Japan and have some relatives that live there.

Not sure about these days but definitely back in the mid to late 90's they wouldn't. Police had Toyota crowns that were factory limited to 180km/h so if a modified gtr or supra flew past at 200+ they knew they couldn't catch them so they wouldn't risk innocent people getting hurt trying to catch a speeder.
I would say that things are different now the cars are no longer limited to 206mw in power so the 180 electronic limiter is also most likely gone as well... still would like to see them catch a 800+kw supra or gtr.....lol I seen plenty of these when I was there 10 years ago. Cops don't put the chases on tv like the US because they catch probably 1 in 1000 at best they would look stupid showing everybody getting away.

RE:
Is it true in Japan, if you're going over 180km/h in a car, the Japanese police don't bother to chase you?

First of all Carl the Truth is wrong as 1 mile > 1 kilometer, obviously. Secondly, I grew up in Japan and over there there's this bell that goes off in your car when it goes over 100 km. It's beyond annoying and REALLY encourages you to slow down. Of course, I'm sure it could be disabled in some way and the cars in Tokyo Drift were most likely imported but... Yes, the cops would certainly chase you. And most likely catch you because the streets of Tokyo are quite hard to learn at first.

All cars in Japan have a speed limiter set by law to 180km/h.

This is probably why they used this information for the movie. Also, the power limit for cars in Japan is 280 horse power, however some vendors will report their cars as having 280HP when they actually don't. This is true for the Nissan Skyline GT-R, which had a stock power of around 300HP, even though the brochures would read 280HP.

It's possible the cops might just let the speed cameras take care of the real idiots. They do have Skylines and GTOs as interceptors though. It's possible they would set up a road-block with spike belts. Hitting a spike belt at 180km is likely to result in "natural selection".

There were some idiots who went and made a DVD of themselves racing on the Shuto expressway in exotic sports cars. The cops bought the DVD, read their tags and then arrested them for dangerous driving. Nowadays morons like that post themselves on youtube, which saves the cops a trip to the DVD store.

you just watched Tokyo drift didn't you? I highly doubt they won't attempt to catch you if you are going 111.8 mph
