i admit, there will be a little venting here- feel free to comment with your own venting (keep it clean please) if you wish. is there anything scientific to back up my claim. so many people that are "activists" for something have very ignorant ideas. they see one side of the issue to such an extreme that they are quick to pass judgement on those not sharing their ideas. yes, i understand that not everyone does this. i'll give two examples: 1-an animal activist thought she'd save hundreds of newborn sea turtles trying to make it back to the ocean from the seagulls. doesn't she realize the reason they lay so many eggs is because most of them won't make it back? it's the circle of life- all she did was mess up the food chain in the ocean. 2-i asked a question on breast augmentation here (to fix a problem-not make them huge) and got attacked with"4000 kids die evry day-and this is what you do" 8 billion is spent on make-up in the US a year- i wonder if she wears it-people spend...

a lot on cars with added luxuries, pure breed pets, hair styling, etc. it doesn't make a difference what people spend their money on- we all do it. as long as you try to help out, i don't see a problem. anyway- comments? controversy?

banjo and sullivan- i like your points- thanks for your perspective on the turtles- good point- and i needed to hear the second part- almost every comment i got for that question was harsh or mean- everyone judged me without knowing me- and yes i expected mixed results, but not to that extreme. most people said it was wrong that i wasn't totally happy with how i looked, but yet everyone wears make-up, colors their hair, gets tattoos, wears nicer clothes, drives nicer cars, etc- all for similar reasons- oops there i went again- anyway- thanks again

Ignorance is bliss. People are happy when they think they know things.

According to Socrates, only the people who know they know nothing are wise.

I agree with you totally. I answered a question the other day that had something to do with marijuana and as I was reading through the other answers, a good 90% of them were people telling the poor kid that he was stupid and the damage had been done and pot is so horrible it kills people. I don't get it! If they want to be upset about something you smoke that kills people, hate cigarettes! They kill more people in a month than marijuana does in 10 years! I wonder how many of them smoke cigarettes... And the abortion thing! I mean, sure killing is bad and a sin, but I feel so bad for the women that actually need to make that decision! I mean, all they think is 'oh, some girl couldn't keep their legs closed' but do they really, actually stop to think about some of the reasons that women make the choice? I'd hate to be a rape victim that got pregnant and have to bring the poor child into the world because some pervert had to go and jack me up. And I'm sure those people would to.

It is, while not completely true, that the people with the biggest mouth are the least educated. Come on people! Get some facts!

Thanks, I needed that.

And to the person who answered below me (outtonight?) It's not that they have different opinions, it's that they have no evidence or substance to support their angry ravings. I'll be the first to admit when I'm wrong when someone can base their arguments on something other than 'that's what I was told'.

i think you should come to peace with yourself that not everyone is going to agree with you. some people are very harsh when faced with opposition, but that doesn't mean you should take it personally. it's not you as a person they are attacking, because they would do it to anyone. it's not because it's you. just stand strong and don't worry about what others think. as a word of caution though, putting yourself out here on the Internet with questions, you should know and realize that you are gonna get all kinds of responses, including those you won't like. sometimes people are even just bored and feel like being mean. if you don't want to hear it, don't ask. hope that didn't sound mean. just saying that, with lots of good answers, feedback, and constructive criticism comes a lot of destructive feedback. venting is good though. everyone needs to now and then.

Extremists get to me too. Realize first, that when you feel passionately about something, I mean really passionate, you may tend to take on these characteristics too. We all get weak over what we care about. Take for example your lady animal activist. She obviously cares for sea-turtles (which are endangered) a great deal. Well, her intentions were good right? She wanted to increase the population for the benefit of the turtle, that was in fact hunted to near extinction by man. Not all bad was she? The other woman is a douche-bag and should be hanged by her toes. It is possible to care too much. Just understand that extremists may have the best of intentions. Sometimes you have to find them.

Chill sweets! No amount of knashing of teeth, will rid you of the bozos of the world. Like my dear departed Daddy once told me...'Opinions are like a......s. Everyone has one...! Living in the USA vertually guarantees it. Remember...ignorance is bliss. You will NEVER be able to change the so-called minds of some un-informed, biggoted jerk face. So...ignore him, walk away, put a door between you and whoever. What ever will work. But most of all...keep cool. People like that WANT you to get hot and bothered. Never give them an easy way to end YOUR argument. They are just not worth your time...

well it is not a simple question to answer? people who go to extreme in anything are not liked at all at least my normal people. And probably don't know what they are doing either but at times excellence is driven by these people like those crazy scientists inventing things others can't even think of. Or doing something that changed the direction of people forever. But then it is my opinion. can be wrong :)

Because they acknowledge that there are people who like seeing passionate opinions, and therefore work towards being praised for being passionate in their beliefs, regardless of whether or not it's right.

And then some people are just spoilt and cannot understand the possibility that they might not be correct in what they say.

Maybe because they are too busy expressing their opinion to listen to anyone else?

their mind is adhered to their own ideas, i think it's their ego that wont accept other opinions and not considering what are the implications to it.
