I don't think so. We can’t legally smoke marijuana or visit Cuba.
Also, another thing, you never really own anything. Even if you buy a house and pay for it in full, the State can take it away if you don't pay your taxes.
So, freedom is really an illusion. We have more freedom than some countries, but we are not truly free.

What makes you think you should be truly free? The fact is Marijuana is currently against the law of this country and you must abide by the laws if you want to live here out of jail. How can you call yourself responsible and then want to break the law? Seems irresponsiblle to me. Is smoking weed that important to you that you would risk what little freedom you currently have? The fact that it probably should be legal is besides the point.
I'm sorry but Freedom is absolutely free, removing peoples freedoms is where the cost lies. Anyone who thinks that freedom isn't free is brainwashed.

Well, all societies, except anarchies, have laws. And as a citizen you are required to follow those laws, whether they go against your personal beliefs or not.
So yes, you are right. You are NOT truly free. That would be anarchy. I am not preaching, but you should be very grateful to live in a place that most people in the world can only dream of doing.

Are you truly free if you can't drive the wrong way on a freeway? ....if you can't yell "Fire" in a crowded place...If you can't be drunk and drive....if you can't molest your own kids....I could go on forever. You are truly free to obey the laws of the land, or be punished for breaking them. You live in a society of laws, not a commune! Besides, we already have enough impaired drivers on the road with alcohol being legal...we do not need to also be dodging people high on weed on our roads.

Go to Burma. Go to Cuba. Go to China. Go to Iran. If you are trying to say that you're oppressed, downtrodden, and have your liberties stolen from you because you can't smoke a J on occasion you should take a look around the world to gain a little perspective. In Sudan you can be killed for going to the wrong church. In Iran you get hanged if you are a homosexual.
How many Mexicans sneak across the border into the US every year to make a better life for themselves? how many Cubans hop in Styrofoam rafts and try to paddle up to Miami? How many stoners try to swim to Cuba to escape oppression and light up a J? There's your answer right there.

Being "truly free" is a myth. The best we can hope for is to be "mostly free."
I don't smoke, by the way, but I support legalization.
