Card: Cribbage, Spades, Hearts, Rummy (various types)
Board: Scrabble, Chinese Checkers
I like to play games with people who also do it for the mental exercise & fun, but without competitiveness... I enjoy teaching the games to new players. Scrabble --for instance-- is much more enjoyable to me, when we don't keep score, & the goal is to cover the board as evenly as possible, instead of trying for the highest score possible! Yes, I played competitively for years, so I speak from personal experience...
My grandmother taught me Chinese Checkers.
My Mother taught us Scrabble, & Rummy.
My Dad taught me Cribbage.
Both parents taught us Hearts.
I picked Spades up from an acquaintance made in the hospital. It's the most challenging card game I know, because you have to remember all the cards that havee previously been played, pre-bid on how many tricks you think you can take, etc.
I like to make Bible-theme-based crossword puzzles to share. Am behind in making clues for those already made, but intend to get back to it, in time...
I don't have children, so no grandkids of my own, but I do have neices & nephews, & children of friends that I enjoy playing with -or teaching- the games to. And, I do encourage enjoying the learning experience, rather than being competitive...
"Let us consider one another to incite to love and fine works..." --Heb. 10:25

I taught my now adult kids to play card games, especially 500 rummy. the youngest who played with me and loved cards like I do,has had a poker group for the last 22 yrs. He plays once a week with the same people, once every few weeks his wife goes and is a good player he says.My favorite card game is whist. I use to play daily as a young person, and then once a week, and I remember starting a whist game with hubby and another couple right after midnite one new years eve and playing till the following evening of New Years day, only stopping to make snacks, we loved whist.I taught my grandkids fish and war, and gin rummy but not enough of us at one time to play.

My favorite board game is Scrabble; Trivial Pursuit and Taboo are also fun. I don't like Monopoly or Life because I am pretty uncompetitive, and I don't like greed (maybe I'm just a sore loser!!). I don't like Life because the penalties make it seem that children are a liability! (They are blessings!) I got an Uncle Wiggly game for my grandsons, ages 3 and 7, and they love it! I think it was first made in the late 30's.

I love to play cards. When I was about 6, my Parents, Aunts and Uncles used to play cards till 2 or 3 in the morning. I was allowed to watch until I fell asleep.
Every Christmas we always played cards and all my 3 children play Cribbage.
I used to take my Mum, when she was alive, to whist Drives. You don't seem to see them anymore.
Sadly I am now with a Partner who doesn't even want to learn Crib. I do miss playing cards as it's such a social thing.

Yes. My favorite card game is Euchre. My family all love to play it. We often play until 2am sometimes. We've learned to deal Jacks for partners though to save marital stress.
My daughter, mom and I like to play Scrabble, Rummikub, Farkle and Yahtzee as well. When my mom comes to town, she stays for about a week, and we play games everyday.
When it's just my 10 year old daughter and I, we like to play Apples to Apples or Monopoly. My family all grew up with a love for playing card and board games. Excellent question by the way.

I love to play Scrabble with my friends. We have a little "club" and play weekly. Currently I am champion - but next week we start again - 8 of us - we play in groups of 4 until we get down into the 2's and the last to lose - Ieaves the WINNER!
Yay!

My favorite all time game is Scrabble. Then Backgammon.
I would rather play with friends or other adults because they know more. My granddaughter is only two years old.
