I crossdress and was hanging out with my friend who said to me "you need to work on getting a hourglass figure" and then laughed. When I asked her what she meant, she said never mind. What does a hourglass figure mean?

Like they said, it means a large chest, small waist, and large hips. Some people would say this is the ideal proportion for a woman.
However, your genes determine where your body fat goes. Some women naturally have an hourglass figure because their weight goes mainly to their breasts and butt. Other women gain weight in their thighs, waist, and other areas. It's pretty much determined by genetics. The only way to get around your genetics is to get breast and butt implants if you are skinny, or lipo on your waist if you are not.

It means that your bust and hips are about the same measurements and your waist is smaller by at least 6-8 inches. You don't have to be 36-24-36 to be considred an hourglass. It's about how your measurements are proportioned to each other rather than a hard measurement.
Don't be fooled by "big bust" because petite women may only be an A or B cup but they are purportioned in such a way that they have the hourglass shape

Hourglass figure means your bust and hip measurement are the same or within one inch of each other and your waist/hip ratio is under 0.75.
So for example: 34-24-34, 35-24-35, 37-26-38, 36-25-37, 39-28-40, 45-32-45 are all hourglass proportions.

Well it means that if you look at your body from straight on, you would look like an hourglass. An hourglass is a glass that is big on top and bottom but thin in the middle. And sand travels through it and once all the sand gets from the top to the bottom, an hour has passed.

It simply means that your body is properly proportioned.
this a a figure most women dream of. Because you can pretty much wear anything without much thought. Honey, if you have more on the bottom, put more on the top and vice versa. a girdle helps with this illusion as well. And tell that friend, don't hate me cause I'm beautiful!

They do have a tendency to have hourglasses extra so than white women human beings. Thats a fat lady not a thick one. the guy who published each and every of the hyperlink has the main dazzling concept. those black women human beings have hourglasses/busty pear shapes.

DUH!...exactly like it sounds...like an hour glass...big boobs, tiny waist and nice hips!...and nobody should strive for that...woman or man! :)
