No it's not worth it, and yes it's a bad thing. We are tainting our heritage as Americans. It's really sad that people believe that "spreading democracy" crap. Lets just invade China, and since Britain has a Parliament, let's invade them too. Actually if you think about it, we should invade ourselves; we're not even a Democracy. Come on Bush, say it with me "Republic". We are spreading something that we know nothing about.

I think you're being a little dramatic. Wars and battles have been going on since the dawn of manking. In order to get what you want, defend yourself or help others, you've got to step in and make a change for the better.
If you're referring to the war in Iraq - it is a just war. Have you not seen the video of the Muslims in Europe who stated that in a few decades they plan on making Europe an Islamic state? Although they say it won't be by sword or bloodshed it's the farthest from the truth. They're on a mission - a mission to dominate the world in the name of Allah.
And lastly, in all fairness, most soldiers who are fighting are giving their life up for their country and what they believe in. You could show more respect.

Perhaps this is something to ask those who are putting their lives on the line? If they are our future's "great citizens" shouldn't they be able to discern the risks? Also, hundreds of thousands have bravely served in Iraq and Afganistan, and thankfully only a small percentage of them have made the ultimate sacrifice. Finally, how much is our national security worth?

I heard a college student raise a similar question in class last spring. He also bragged about being too drunk to remember how he drove home from the bar the previous weekend.
Now here a scary fact: about FIVE time as many people are killed EACH YEAR as the total number of American military deaths in Iraq. Many innocent young people are killed drunk drivers, but I see too many drunk and/or stoned college kids every week.
It is tragic that we are losing troops in the war, but it is really tragic that so many are killed by dumbasses.

why did you say youth, 99% of all combat deaths are men, so really you should say "is war worth sacrificing our nations young men?"
my answer is: no, no war is ever good, and trillions of men have died because of it. but we still have women who will still be great even if the man who might've cured cancer was killed in war, a woman who lived, may cure it, as an example.
so, no war ever is worth it, look at ww2 we lost millions of our boys fighting japan and germany, and now we are best friends with both countries.
but do you really want all those who have died in war to be dead for no reason? if we pull out of iraq, 5000+ people will've died for nothing, and that is unacceptable

Sacrificing our nation's youth? Don't you think you are over dramatizing that a bit? Over 4 1/2 years, only 3,600 or so have died.
There were days in WW2 where more American soldiers lost their lives, then all lost in Iraq so far.

A bad thing to risk lives to uphold liberty and freedom?? I'm guessing you have no one in your family who has ever served in the armed forces.
We sacrificed lives and preserved freedom against England
then within ourselves
then against Germany
then against Nazism
then against Soviet Union
then against Communism

the world is not perfect, and someone has to fix it.
but it is not like you said sacrificing the youth, our military is a volunteer military, we serve knowing fully the risks we take, but are willing to do what needs to be done for the greater good!
bad guys are always going to be out there, and we will have for the foreseeable future to go to war to stop them, we have no choice!

For this war no.
Bush is young. He should spend his future in Iraq working as the ambassador. His wife and buddies should join him. The people that started the war need to put their lives in harms way by manning that new embassy over there.
They are willing to accept death but aren't willing to give their lives for the country by continuing their work in bringing peace and democracy over there?
Was worse dying or spending your life working for America in Iraq? George Bush next Ambassador to Iraq!
George Bush next ambassador to Iraq! 8 more years! 8 more years!
If George Bush loves his country he will do it.
