Borders or Barnes and Noble. Going to the bookstore is so much better than shopping for books online, it is an actual experience that I look forward to when I go. I only purchase books online that aren't sold at these bookstores- and even then I think they can special order books for you if you need.
Plus they have good coffee at both, yum ^.^

Barnes and Nobles, Borders, Half Price books, Walden's books, (not sure if B Dalton is still around) target, walmart, Grocery stores, Abebooks. com, Amazon.com, Garage sales, Community resales stores, Learning Express (kid books)
i enjoy any place that has books and will go just about anywhere, i love buying books and looking through stacks of them.

I've had great luck with both Amazon and EBAY...
Right now though, I prefer Ebay..
I bought 28 older books in the last couple weeks and spent less then $50 total...
Of course, if you're buying new, Amazon may be the better choice..

I must say that I'm hooked on Amazon ( http://amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_gw/002-5270902-4624018?url=search-alias%3Dstripbooks&field-keywords=&x=12&y=22 ). They have a great variety at good prices.
If I'm trying to find an old, out-of-print or rare book, I go to http://www.abebooks.com/ - they almost always have the book for which I'm looking. If I can't find it there, I try http://www.barnesandnoble.com/used/search.asp?z=y - Barnes and Noble used and out-of-print books.
If I want a beautiful book that is leather bound (and pricey), I check http://www.eastonpress.com/intro2.asp - the books are wonderful for gifts and last forever.

It depends on who you are. Some people prefer staying local and so they more go for local bookstores or local chains. By local chain I mean a chain that may only in your state and no one from another state is likely to have heard of it. Well, no one from another state who does not shop regulary in your state.
Others like to go with a more regional or national chain.
Me, I like going with both national chains and local chains. Of the national chains, those that I really go for are Borders and Barnes & Noble.
