I feel sorry for his mother/father. All kids push limits, and once they catch on to the notion that they might get their way if they publicly embarass you, they will try it.

I once saw a kid in a story (in the toy section) throwing a tantrum and the poor mother looked really fed up. I walked up to the kid and said, "I'm just curious, throwing a fit never worked for me, does it work for you". The kid actually sobbed "no". Then I said, "Hmm, if you know it doesn't work, why do you still do it?" The kid actually stopped, and as I walked away, the mom mouthed the words "thank you". I'm not sure I'd do that in all situations - typically a stranger stepping in doesn't help, but I just sort of intuitively knew that mom was at the end of her rope and needed some help.

If you are having issues with your kid, perhaps you will find this useful. There is a class called "Parenting with Love and Logic" that is very good (IMHO):

I work in a retail store and I find it amazing how moms today drag their kids in the stores for such a long time ,and the parent is on the cell phone and gripping up a storm at the child while pushing the cart and gabbing with who-ever. So when I hear a child fusing and a aggrevated parent - - first thing I do is glance up from my work to see if she's on the cell--and if the kid is caught / hanging dangerously from the cart (and believe me in my 6 yrs at the store I HAVE SEEN MOST OF IT ALL!!!) If the I can dissfuse or side track the kid with a fast"Oh my goodness!!Did you see the birdie??? and point up to the ceiling of our store! Because birds do get in while trucks are unloading and domestic birds get loose in there.

Well, been there, done that. As a parent, that is. It doesn't necessarily mean they have bad parents. Sometimes kids just need to vent. And face it, there are some ages where they need to vent a lot! They are just trying to assert their independence. Ignore the behavior and it will stop, most generally. Hey, who doesn't want to have their way? If you think about it, we all have our own little temper tantrums, even as we get older. We just learn to handle them a little better...hopefully.

The first thing that crosses my mind is "why does that parent think that simply saying 'stop that' is going to do anything.....that parent needs to show that child some discipline right here and now, cause if not the child is going to realize that they can get away with that behavior in public places."

That's a whole lot of stuff crossing my mind there.

I always think walk away, don't give them the attention they are seeking in an inappropriate manner...

It worked with my kids.. The theatrics of a tantrum are very unimpressive when there's not an audience for it...

It amazing how quickly the message "Tantrums don't work." gets through when you simply walk down the aisle away from the child...

Ever heard of Traditional Asian Child Discipline?

Honestly I just get annoyed. I literally want to grab the kid by the neck and throw the screaming thing through a glass window--BUT that only happens by imagination.

.... Or does it?

Cheers.

Feel sorry for the parents that they may be hesitant to smack them and twist their ear till they shut up. Fearing the scornful look or worse of the parent monitors.

I wanna grab the annoying kid and RING THEIR NECK!!!! for disturbing the peace.

If it is really late, like say past 8 p.m., I wonder why the parents even have the kids out, I find it soooooooooooo irresponsible. Then I wanna ring the parents necks!

The child is a spoiled kid where the parents have been fulfilling all his needs.
