I lied about where i work to my family, should i care?

Question

I lied to my extended family about the name of my company-gace compeitiors name, only because their nosey, i dont get along with them and felt it was none of their business.
I also felt they may call my job.
Now my 2nd cousin who i havent spoke to in 3 years, saying she walked into the store and didnt see my name on piece of paper listing me as an employee- she left this on my machine..

Now the store she walked into is a retail store- there 50 for that company, i said i worked for the headquarters in NYC, she went to the retail store (clothing) in Virginia..

Should I care?
Why does she care?
Was i right about them tracking me down?
Is it better off i lied?
I could just say I quit last year since we havent talked since, right?

I've never thought that lying was good. It always seems that one lie turns into more lies as you cover/justify the first lie.

Nosy family members are annoying and very problem some. I have several people in my family who are like this. I've found that it is best to ignore them & not let them get to me. When they ask me something personal that I don't want to share, I simply tell them that it's my business and I don't wish to discuss.

You should never be ashamed or embarrassed about where you work. If you do your job to the best of your ability and give your customers your best, you should be proud of what you do. Maybe your family is jealous or envious of you.

Maybe you shouldnt have lied..no matter how annoying or nosy it seems you coulda just told her the truth, cause eventually lies always turn around and backfire and twist. Just tell her the truth and give her the real reason..? only do that if you really feel that she cares..and yourself, guess if your tight w/them but since you said you dont get along w/them.. then maybe just tell her that..or express how you think about them being nosy..who knows maybe they just wanted to start some sorta conversation or socialize in a wayy..

Although lying is never good, for your situation I can understand why you did it.
If they are too nosy then maybe they don't really care in the first place. I don;t know them, but I;m just saying. Your not trying to impress then so I'd just let it roll off your shoulders.

When people start asking me questions that I feel are none of their business I usually turn it around on them. Ask them "Why do you want to know?" that will either shut them up or take the conversation to a more interesting place. Save yourself the grief of lies that are a type of prison.

tell them where your actually work at, then tell them to stop asking too much and tracking you, you not doing any criminal job, if they have any thing to talk with you, leave message on your phone, tell them what they did really offending you, is not ok to keep lieng althought it didn't make any harm, the best solution is to have an open talk with your family, make them understand that you are an adult now and you know what are you doing, communication is important.

dont feel bad, if you dont want them to know, they dont need to know. make sure no one gives out your personal info. and obviously if you work for headquarters, your name does not need to be listed in a retail store.

You shouldn't lie to your family. But extended family is not so bad, and if they're checking up on you so much, then definitely it's fine. Don't worry about it

It will come back to haunt you if they find out and you will look bad in their eyes.
