You're right. So is the person that disagrees with you. There's a balance to strike here.
The stereotypical, reactionary, war-mongering, pro-military, "kick-some-***" right-wing, so-called patriots are on one extreme...
...And the stereotypical idealists are on the other.
Go off too far in either direction, and you just become annoying.

I have no reservations regarding Idealists, with the exception that they are not grounded in reality (generally). The biggest problem is that not everyone shares the same view about life, love and happiness; and therefore should not have to abide by someone else's whim of an idealized world simply because it sounds to be the best thing. Oddly enough, this notion is so uniquely Western it embarrassing. I didn't realize it until I went out abroad into the real world (anything outside the US and Europe). To the rest of the world this notion of Idealism is considered rude and Cultural Hegemony. And it is here where my reservations of it are drawn.
Bear in mind also, that just because someone claims to be a Christian, doesn't mean they are. Same thing with Conservatives....just look at the NeoCons. Hope this made some sense.

Fear and cowardice. Imagine an idealist that can back up their ideals. Truly a terrible person to oppose in honest debate. What if we found ourselves on the wrong side of that argument because of a vested interest? That's why. Indefensible policy is only defensible if you tear down the opposition party by distracting people from the issues.
My view on war is that it is the last resort of a desperate mind. I believe our existence is more meaningful than merely being here to kill each other.

Was it Paul McCartney's ex-wife that proposed we all drink rat's milk to save us from global warming. The Beatles also proposed a perfect world solution.
"Imagine there's no Heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today
Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace
You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one
Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world
You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one"

Because they often don't exist in the realm of reality.
People are what they are, fallible.
How can imperfect people create a perfect society, or a perfect world?

That's nice and all,but sometimes the world isn't all lollipops and puppy tails. You have brutal dictators and governments who won't listen to reason. Look what happened in Rwanda. No one cared enough to help them.
