The local drive is using the NTFS format and the recovery drive is using the FAT32 format. Should I convert this drive to the NTFS. It has 13% free space, not enough for the 15% required to defragment it. If i format it, will it erase the drive's contents, because it is my system recovery after all. some one help

NO do NOT reformat the recovery partition, if you do will LOSE the recovery information and backup suite. It is as FAT32 for a reason, their boot disc to rebuild the system if it failes is ONLY able to read Fat32

If it's the recovery partition has only 13% free, don't worry you should NOT be saving stuff here anyway, you should LEAVE THIS alone as your recovery area, so it doesn't NEED defragmented, despite windows telling you it might !

As others have pointed out, the recovery drive is usually required to return your computer to its original factory settings. However, if you have created a set of backup discs or have other plans for restoring your system if you ever run into problems you do not need it. This recovery drive is actually a second partition on your physical hard drive, so if you want to use the space then the best solution is to use a partition manager such as Partition Magic to delete the recovery partition and extend the primary partition to maximum size. You will then have a single larger, more useful NTFS partition.

you could format the recovery drive if you have the recovery CD.
yes, the formatting will delete the files in it. so, just format or convert the drive only. not the drive C (local drive)
even you don't have any recovery CD, have a visit to the HP website for all the drivers you need.

no, do not reformat it. leave it as it is. you don't have to worry about defragmenting it since it will only be used to restore your laptop to factory spec if it ever breaks down. don't touch the files on that drive.
