So in this case I see specs of "100-240V - 1.7A 50-60 Hz.

match those and I should be a good fit?

NO the laptops all have their own power and connector requirements, and simply the fact that the plug fits DOES NOT mean they are correct.

You need to compare the "Output voltage" and "current" on the transformer it came with to one you are thinking of using. IF they are the same, you SHOULD be OK.

If you need a replacement, SPECIFY make and model of laptop if not buying direct from manuf of laptop to ensure you get the right specs

each laptop have their own power supply design. some use the simple pin jack & others use the 5 pin jack. for HPs case, the newer models use the same plug & voltage type. i have an HP Pavilion & my Dad has a Compaq Presario & they both have the same power supply.
