An improvised maracas?

Please suggest how to make an improvise maracas.

Cover a lightbulb with paper mache.
Let it completely dry.
Whack it on a hard surface, this breaks the bulb.
Paint it bright colors.
Voila! Maraca away.

The ones we make in grade school. Empty cans and pebbles. Others use macaroni shells.
