For a first birthday, keep it simple. Remember, it is more for your memories than the baby, they aren't going to remember it. Plan on close family only. Large groups, noise and chaos are just going to make the baby cranky, and no one wants that. Make sure you time it for after the baby's afternoon nap, but not too late in the evening either. Food...cake (obviously), and probably just snacky stuff since it will be afternoon time...finger sandwiches, veggie tray, chips, etc. Games? I can't imagine a game for a one year old's party, honestly. Open presents, sing happy birthday, have cake. Happy Birthday, Baby!

As someone said the 1st birthday party is more for your memories than anything else.
For my daughters birthday we had it at a park (her bd is in July) and I just invited family & friends. Everyone brought a dish to share so we had a great variety and plenty for everybody. Plus it wasn't so much work for mom. Then we just all visited & enjoyed each other's company!
As far as games unless you plan on inviting older kids or adults that enjoy playing them I don't see much point in them at her first birthday. Maybe when she's a little older.

Yesss! Most people have the 1st birthday party revolve around adults or older kids but we did ours all age appropriate.
We invited about 10 babies my sons age and we just had a grass area set up with ramps and wooden boxes and bubbles. We threw small toys all over the grass for them to discover. One year olds don't really play games and they are too little for bouncers and stuff like that.
Anyways, the babies had their safe area and were content. For the adults we had tables and chairs and served parrilla(Argentinian BBQ), empanadas, salads and little sandwhiches.
For the babies, I served steamed carrots(so they are soft), fruit salad, pealed grapes and little crustless sandwiches.
One of my friends had a quesadilla cart at her son's birthday. She also had fruit salad and bagels, crema cheese and locks. She did it at a park in Beverly Hills. That was a big success as well.

I just had my sons 1st birthday , we had it at 2 so it was in between lunch and dinner. And we just had family and very few friends, and got a couple of pizzas, soda, I had a craft for the older kids, and did a photo with all of the familys and my son, and send there pictures in the thank you cards. Your baby wont remember so you dont have to make it super huge. Its more for the parents anyways. Wait till they get older to go all out. Just keep it simple

My baby girl turned one in April. My theme was flowers, butterflies, bright colors as well. I just made a few platters (meat and cheese, fruit and dip. veggies, shrimp dip with crackers), and then also cooked up some hot dogs on the barbeque. I also had a cupcake cake so everyone could just take one and not have to worry about cutting and plates and forks, etc. It was perfect, You dont want to be tied down too much, your little one is going to be very busy (I understand that you have help but really do you want to miss out on this special day because you were clearing plates from a meal?) As for favors I had children from the age of 10 months to 4 years, and i made two different bags. One with stuff for the older children (temporary tattos, stickers, rubber bouncing balls, chocolate, and bubbles), in the smaller childrens (bigger thinner bouncing balls, small stuffed animals, bubbles for the parents to play with them). Well I hope this helped and good luck!

This is what I did for my baby's first birthday and it was a big hit. Make it children's book themed and ask guests to bring a copy of their favorite childhood book in lieu of gifts. They can write a dedication to the baby in the inside. This way you'll have a little library all ready for him/her and personalized from your family and friends.
