Just look at the chicago bulls right now. Basically the same thing will happen for a couple of years this team will need to rebuild and become a good one again. Like the chicago bulls the suns will probably have a couple sub .500 seasons, then they will get some draft picks, trades, and will start to rebuild, eventually they will go back to being great in about 7 years after Nash's retirement.

Steve Nash is a Magic/Stockton caliber passer so they'll really take a hit when he retires. But Stoudemire is a great big man and they've got a great team game going on down there, so I think they'll stay competitive in the play-offs even without Nash.

The future looks bleak. Remember what Phoenix's record before Nash arrived? They were 29-53 the year before he arrived in 04-05. The year before (03-04) they were 44-38. And in 02-03 they were 36-46.
Nash made them immediate contenders. And I don't know if anyone's made a point of noticing, but their offence gets pretty stagnant when Nash is out of the game.
So my crystal ball says they'll be "mediocre" or "bad" when he retires.

Its gunna be a bit hard for them without Nash but they should be alright. Steve nash is definetely going into the phoenix suns ring of honor and the nba hall of fame.

All You Guys Are Wrong !!!!
Steve Nash is 33 and he is in better shape than Parker & Manu, Steve has at least 6 years left in him. Shawn Marion is amazing yet still underrated, hopefully he stays with Phoenix. Barbosa is the fastest player in the NBA, 20 points off the bench image if he starts. Raja isn't going anywhere. Diaw has fell off since his most-improved season, but he can score, assist and rebound when he was to, no one can stop him, but his-self. DJ Strawberry their rookie from Maryland is going to be Barbosa in a few years. And I didn't even get to Amare yet, all he need is someone to pass him the ball and he's gonna stuff it down or even get the three-point play. He improved on his jump shoot and on his defense (wait till he gets the three ball dropping).

they will be average even with marion and stoudemire. nash is what drives them, he is the engine per say. thats why phxs window of opportunity is closing. without nash, phoenix is not a huge threat anymore, without nash theyre not an elite team. if you look at the games when nash sits out, phoenix generally struggles. last year they lost to the hawks without nash...so theres a glimpse into the future.

Doom and gloom! nah.. I would trade off Marion now for another SF/PF who is young and maybe a few draft picks so they can draft a point guard high up in the draft to replace Steve Nash.

the suns is a luxury tax team. once nash is gone, they'll either trade a few key but expensive pieces and get themselves a new point guard, or, they will trade everyone away and rebuild.

unless they could fine a person that they could groom behind him (Dee Brown aka The One Man Fastbreak) to take his spot when he retires they will be in really bad shape.
