Johan is a great pitcher and probably the best lefty right now, but I wouldn't advise to trade for him just yet...

- Santana doesn't enter the FA until after the 2008 season and any team that acquires him needs to work on an extenstion (possibly in the $16-$20 million per year range) before the season starts.

- He doesn't turn 29 until next season, but there is a lot of potential danger in acquiring a power pitcher who may have pitch his prime. They can break down and whitter at any moment more than a finesse pitcher and his asking price is a lot. Not only that, Santana has full no-trade clause in his current contract, which means that Johan needs to approve it first, which might be likely w/ the Angels or any other big market team.

- The Angels doesn't need to be greedy with their rotation now. They have Lackey, Escobar, Weaver, and Garland all but set and let E. Santana, Joe Saunders, or Nick Adenhart to fight for the fifth spot.

- Their projected payroll is already exceeding $120 million with the addition of Hunter and Garland. By putting Santana on the payroll, the Angels are going to pay luxury taxes for several season before seeing the light of day and trying to rebuild the farm system at the same time, which I believe they can do. However, there are opposing dangers to long-term contracts that could hurt the Angels financially, but I do hope the Angels can have success within the near future.

- Owner Arte Moreno is frustrated with the Cabrera (Miguel) deal that the last thing he wants to be frustrated about is getting Santana right now.

Although I would love the Angels to pursue Santana, Reagins should hold off on this one until the Winter Meeting starts and see what Santana's asking price is from then on.

If the Angels get Johan they would have to give up Kendrick, Santana, and Willits at least.

The Yankees offer would include Kennedy, Melky, and possibly Duncan. A minor leaguer could also be thrown in there as they have the best farm system in the game.

The Yanks are already a front runner in the race for Santana, and the Angels are distracted by trying to get Willis and Cabrera from the Marlins. The Yankees have too many guys they can throw at the Twins and I think they are going to push this one through since they are in the most need of a LHP to protect the short porch.

Odds are 3-1 Yanks get him.
4-1 Angels get him.

properly no longer the Angels, they already spent a ton of money on Hunter and probly won't dish out extra for Santana, Its surprisingly lots between the purple Sox and Yankees in who will furnish extra high quality gamers alongside with some youthful possibilities to the Twins.

I think they should...because I don't want the Red Sox to give up Jacoby for Johan (which is what the Twins are demanding right now) and I don't want him to end up on the Yankees...so yeah I hope the Angels do get him.

yeah, i hope we do get him, a rotation of johan, lackey, garland, escobar and weaver? lights out my friend, then saunders could be a long relief man
but id trade santana, willits, kendrick and maybe throw in adenhart, save mathis and possibly rivera for a trade to land tejada

I don't understand the question. Should the Angels get the best pitcher in baseball? Sure?
