Personally I love Unix Power Tools by O'Reilly
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0596003307/althackerorg-20
Its expensive. But its also really big (1200 pages). And its full of really short little paragraphs by many many people on "this common problem, my little script to fix it"

There are many books available for learning UNIX shell scripting in detail. In the reference you would find a thread which discusses on ways of learning UNIX and several resources for the same. Hope you find it useful.

UNIX Shell Programming
by Kochan & Wood.

This is a great book. I got more out of it than any other book that touched on the subject. And I bought a lot of books on shell scripting before I found this one.

The authours start with very easy examples that illustrate all of the critical concepts.
