I think there are a lot better ways to get to know someone than going away together for a weekend. I think I would get to know him and whether something could develop, and then, if it does, go somewhere together. If you were to ask him now, he would probably get the wrong idea and think you already liked him. Could lead to problems you don't want.

Depends on how long I had known him. If we were "friends" for a while and a spark was there, then I would bring up the subject of a weekend outing to see what his response was.
