I'm in university and in a relationship that's getting serious and lately I've been crying a lot.. Do you think that it's possible that it's in my system to be depressed if I don't have a baby by this age? (I'm 20.)
This obviously doesn't mean I'm going to have a baby lol.. just interested in your thoughts .

Please also include why.

There's definitely a hormonal component. It's not like I choose to cry. It's very different than it was before puberty.

Thanks for answering!

Lots of people dont have babys till they are much older than that. Most likely you're hormones are just going wacko for another reason.

I think you need to ask yourself why you want a baby so much at such a young age. (How old was your mother when she had her 1st child?)

Could it be possible you are pregnant & that's why your hormones are acting up? Does it happen several days before your period or during it? Have you ever had an abortion? These are some reasons I can think of for your depression.

Maybe you're depressed because your bf isn't giving you the signals you want to take the next step in the relationship.

I might also go to your GP and ask for a good physical exam. A low thyroid can cause you to be very depressed. Have him test your TSH, TRH, Free t4, free t3 and calculated t4 & t3. Check for anemia and ask to have your hormones checked.

I hope that helps.

It sounds more like seasonal affective disorder to me, specifically since you said this seems like a current sort of thing. Or, it could be hormones...maybe you need a different kind of birth control. I really doubt that it is because you don't have a baby by "your age". You're only 20, you have years yet.

yes i believe it is possible. i have heard of people wanting a baby badly. im glad you say it doesnt mean you're going to have a baby. i think you should finish school first.

maybe you feel like you want more, and your relationship isnt enough. just remember having a baby is something you have to be ready for =) good luck

you are 20 and in University

this is NOT a good time to be having a baby...

wait until you have at least spent some time enjoying the field you are training for - buy a house - and have money in the bank - kids are UNBELEIVABLE expensive.. ($, time, emotionally)..

I suspect you are stressed and depressed - but not necessarily because you dont have a kid...

it is possible to be depressed BECAUSE you have kids (lol)...

seriously dont make the mistake of getting pregnant now..

see a doctor.. you could be clinically depressed and this would be a TERRIBLE time to conceive...

yes, it's completely possible, you have to make sure it's a baby that you want and you are not using a child to fill some other void.
