Since Ruth is the greatest player and played most of his career for the Yankees, it's pretty obvious. Mantle isn't a bad choice. Joe D I would still rank behind Gehrig.
Jeter???? Oh good lord...even if winning championships is the measure, he comes in behind the following Yankees (I may be missing some):
Yogi Berra,
Mickey Mantle,
Bill Dickey,
Frankie Crossetti,
Phil Rizzuto,
Lou Gehrig,
Hank Bauer,
Allie Reynolds.
Red Ruffing,
Joe Collins,
Lefty Gomez,
Jerry Coleman,
and the immortals Johnny Murphy and Tommy Heinrich.

To me, it's either DiMaggio or Gehrig. Both had great character and were super talented. Gehrig gets the emotional nod because of his "Iron Horse" image, modesty and "The Luckiest Man on the Face of the Earth" attitude. He was also born in the City. DiMaggio probably better exemplifies the style of the City- or at least Manhattan - even though he's from San Fran. He also lost stats by serving the country in WWII, though he never went overseas.
So how do you choose between the two? Dead heat.
I don't know how anyone can question DiMaggio's character. He was clearly a classy guy, though somewhat private by modern standards. Ruth is a legend, but he's no role model.

Are you kidding? Although the Yankees have had many stars (see Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Joe DiMaggio, Whitey Ford, Yogi Berra, Mickey Mantle, Thurman Munson, Ron Guidrey, Reggie Jackson, Derek Jeter, Mariano Rivera, Alex Rodriguez, and so on), there is only one choice here:
George Herman (Babe) Ruth.
Look up his statistics and see how he dominated baseball like never before (or since).

It should have been me!!!!.....seriously if Mantle had just not been hurt so much it makes one wonder what could have been....this question's answer has to go to Ruth...he did build the house and set all kinds of records there....714 homeruns with nearly 4000 less bats then Aaron.....I think that speaks for itself....plus a world series pitcher record holder....had the consecutive scoreless innings before Whitey Ford and pitched in the longest in one game in the series...14 innings......Ruth is and will always be the greatest baseball player and not just for the Yankees!.....Joe was great and right behind him!

Joe Dimaggio was a great baseball player but a lousy Human Being. My vote goes to Lou Gehrig. Terrific ball player in the shadow of the Babe but his numbers were terrific. If his playing days weren't shortened by ALS he could have been the best of all time.

All around best baseball player ever Joe DiMaggio. Lou Gerig played with both Ruth and DiMaggio, in their prime, and he said Joe DiMaggio was the best he ever say.

Yankee Stadium isn't known as the house that DiMaggio built, nor Mantle, nor Gehrig, nor Martin, nor Berra, nor Reese,nor.........though there has been plenty of opportunity to change the nickname, nobody has. The House That Ruth Built. Greatest Yankee of all time, probably the greatest player, also. Pitched in the all star game, believe he threw at least one no-hitter, career era under 3.00 not to mention his hitting prowess.

I'd have to go with Babe Ruth- the Yankees weren't very relevant prior to the Babe and Yankees stadium is known as the House that Ruth Built.
