I do not know what to do.....I am serioulsy confused right now!

Okay, I got this job at this mortgage/insurance place. I am supposed to start work offically on December 3!
Anyway...I am only 20, and my husband and I just bought our first place, so right now our money is very tight!!
Well, last weekened I took a insurance class that cost me a little over 400 dollars!!
It really put as back, and we are scraping as of now! Then, my boss wanted me to go to another training class this week, and there was just no way I could afford the gas of going all the way across town. NOW, he is upset with me, and thinks that I am slacking off.....he thinks that not having money is no excuse!
Plus, I am upset because technically I am not supposed to start working until next week, and he is mad at me because I didnt go to a training class this week!I dont know what to do because I am a dedicated person...I just cant afford to go to all these things hes sending me to!
What should I do????

Your boss hired you for a Dec 3rd start date. He should have TOLD you about all the training classes that would be required and when you'd need to attend them. If he had, you could have told him during the interview that you simply could not afford to take the classes until your first paycheck. You need to respectfully talk to him and tell him that your financial situation is just very difficult, especially right here at Christmas. Tell him that you're excited to start work at his company and that you'll gladly take the classes after you receive your first paycheck but that you simply can't afford to take them right now unless he can pay for them. He should not have hired you if he didn't feel you were already qualified. And he shouldn't expect you to obtain all the certifications on your own dime when it's going to benefit him!

This boss is ridiculous. Any legitimate job that requires training does not make you pay for that training out of your own pocket. THEY pay for the training - not you.

What kind of a jerk would spring this on you at the last minute, ignore the fact that you can't afford the training that he should be paying for ($400 is a lot of money for most people), and then be angry with you because you're not jumping through hoops for him?

It's great that you are a dedicated person, but there's a line between dedicated and getting walked all over. He is taking advantage of you because you are inexperienced in this area. Trust me, this is NOT how an employer should treat their employee.

You need to cut your losses and look for another job.

He sounds very unreasonable. If he didn't tell you upfront what out of pocket expenses you would incur, then that wasn't fair to you at all.
You might want to re-think whether you want to work for someone who is so unsympathetic when someone tells them they have no money at this moment! He could have offered to pay for your gas, and allowed you to reimburse him later.
If he's got you so upset now, imagine what it will be like when you actually work under him.
Hopefully, you can take what you learned at that seminar and put it to good use elsewhere, if you feel that you just can't handle his personality. Best wishes.

...Well if you were suppose to go to classes that pertained to these jobs then you should have went. He had to arrange those classes and they cost money from him. You might should have let him know your money situation before hand and he could have advanced you $20 for gas.

...Gas is expensive and it's hard to have money left over from buying gas. Still there is usually a way to get $20 for gas. Pawn shop, borrowing from friend family or boss, or rolling up coins.

...Never the less he is right. You should have let him know that you had a money problem.

Tell him that you do not have the money and since the expense was not explained to you, you could not prepare for it. I'm going to advise you that this is a warning sign. This man will be hellish to work for. You probably need to look for another job.

Take your boss aside, and apologize for not being able to attend the training course, and tell him that you do take your job seriously but explain that the previous training course hurt you financially. Tell him you are completely willing to attend the course at anytime after your first pay period.

Welcome to the real world honey. Get used to things such as you described. Maybe you should work at Wal MArt first and then you can save your money to take the training you need.
