I need the names of the city that fell not because the people did not fight against their enemy but because they fought with each other. I need it as an example for my political science paper.

Some excellent examples would be the ancient Greek cities, such as Athens, Sparta, Thebes, and Corinth. Although the Greeks had successful periods where they united to fight a common enemy, such as during their war with Persia, the Peloponnesian War (431–404 BC), divided the Greek civilization, weakening it to the point where it was unable to unite against future common enemies.

Another good example for your paper are the pre-columbian Mayan cities of the Yúcatan peninsula; Tikal, Palenque, Copán and Calakmul. The Mayan civilization was much like the Greek, with numerous city states with a common language flourishing and competing. Although there are no written accounts of the Mayan city's collapse, archaeologist subscribe the cause to a combination of natural disasters and competition between the cities for goods and resources.

Peace.

In World War II, the Russian Army was advancing through Poland in 1944. The Polish Home Army, their version of the underground resistance, rose up after 5 years of occupation as the Russians approached. The Germans and Poles fought a bitter battle for control of Warsaw, all the while the Russian Army halted and let the blood letting continue until both sides had nearly wiped each other out. The Russians' main concern was to eliminate to the extent possible anyone who would be willing to resist the Communist dictatorship that the Russians had planned for the Poles after the war was over.
