I think NCAA schools should hire the best person regardless of his races, religions....as the head coach.. I also agree that they should look at minorities also but those minorities candidate should not have privillages above anyone else..

As a minority, I hate this idea. When a school already has someone in mind, they're going to hire that person no matter what. So if you make this a requirement, you're wasting the school's time, not to mention the minority candidate who could be looking at a different job that might want him.
Yes, it's hard to break through. But quotas and shoving things down peoples' throats is not the way to go. I'd rather earn something on merit than have it handed to me because "I'm a minority and I deserve it." I'd rather have a coach earn his way to an interview because of talent, record as an assistant/coach elsewhere, character, etc, versus having the question hanging "were they hired/looked at only because of race?"
It's a touchy subject, but I've been looked at before as getting into a school/getting a job to fill a quota, not on the fact I was qualified. Same with my parents.
So no, they shouldn't be "required".

If a good "minority" coach is available. It's BS really...your "good 'ol boy theory". Say Bill Cowher is available next year and the Ravens for example interview him...they have to waste a "minority" coaches time interviewing him when they know damn well they are going to be hiring Cowher anyhow????? Seems I'd be insulted if I was just interviewed only because I was a minority. You hire the best...and if the best is black-hire him-if he's not the best-he doesn't get the job. Period.

THE REASON I SAY THAT THEY SHOULD NOT HAVE TO BE REQUIRED TO INTERVIEW A MINORITY COACH IS
1. IT'S THEIR MONEY
2. WHEN THEY ARE FORCED TO DO SO THEY CALL A MINORITY COACH IN AS, MOST OF THE TIME, A FORMALITY.
3. WHEN THE COACH IS TURNED DOWN HE OR SHE PROBABLY IS RATHER DEJECTED KNOWING THAT THE SCHOOL ONLY BROUGHT THEM IN FOR A REQUIREMENT AND NOT BEING TAKEN SERIOUSLY AS A CANDIDATE FOR THE JOB
4. EVENTUALLY THAT COACH WILL GET THEIR TIME TO SHINE WITH SOMEONE WHO TRULY WANTS THEM TO BE THERE
5. THE SCHOOL WOULD BE AFRAID TO HIRE THE COACH, BECAUSE IF A MINORITY COACH GOT THE CHANCE AND DID A BAD JOB, THEN THE SCHOOL WOULD HAVE TO LET THEM GO IT LOOKS LIKE THEY ARE DISCRIMINATING
6. EVENTUALLY IT WILL CATCH UP TO THESE SCHOOLS BECAUSE IF MINORITY PLAYERS SEE THAT A UNIVERSITY IS UNWILLING TO AT LEAST INTERVIEW A MINORITY CANDIDATE, THAT MIGHT SWAY THEIR MIND TO NOT ATTEND THAT SCHOOL TO PLAY SPORTS, TO ADD EVEN THE CORRECT MINDED MAJORITY WOULD NOT ATTEND IN A SCHOOL LIKE THAT IN A CORRECT WORLD
IN THE END THE SCHOOLS SHOULD HIRE WHO THEY CHOSE AND THE FIELD WILL EVEN ITSELF OUT SADLY TO SAY WHEN THE OLDER PEOPLE THAT STILL HANG ONTO THE RACIAL AND ETHNIC DIFFERENCES THEY HAVE, DIE OFF

I'm Chinese American, an even greater minority than African Americans in this country... but I don't support any artificial opportunity for minorities. No offense, but IF a particular owner REALLY subscribed to the "good old boy" system, being required to interviewing minorities is certainly not going to change his or her mind on who they want to hire.
I don't think for a second the Art Shell, Lovie Smith, Dennis Green, or Tony Dungee got their jobs because of required interviews. They got their jobs because of what they brought to the table. They got their shot because of what they did leading up to that point.

What good does it do to enforce INTERVIEWING rules? You aren't gonna get people hired just because the school was FORCED to interview them. It's the overall mindset that needs to be changed and that will not happen by forcing schools to basically pretend they're interested in someone they have no intention of hiring. 'Cause if they were gonna seriously considering hiring a guy they wouldn't need to be FORCED to interview him in the first place.
I think we DO get it, but we do NOT think that will really open any doors. The schools that need a rule in order to make them interview minorities aren't going to hire one and the other schools don't need a rule.

There is a substantial number of minority coaches in the NCAA.
They follow the same guidelines as any other profession...
I could care less whether or not our coach is a minority, and who cares if they interview a minority.....
If they pass that rule it would be ridiculous.
