There are two types of ear infections. One on the inside of typmapnic membrane and one on the outside of the membrane, namely otitis media and otitis externa. Grown ups do not get otitis media, they get referred pain from sore the pharynx (i.e. throat). Otitis externa you can get and is usually characterized by tenderness when you pull on the ear. You need to get antibiotic ear drops if you have otitis externa from your doctor.
