MANILA, Philippines -- A group of soldiers led by Senator Antonio Trillanes and Brigadier General Danilo Lim has called on the security forces to withdraw support from the administration of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

After walking out from a hearing at the Makati regional trial court, Trillanes and Lim, who are on trial for the shortlived mutiny at the Oakwood Apartments in 2003, led a march along Makati Avenue, according to a radio report over dzBB.

Former vice president Teofisto Guingona and Bishop Tobias were also present.

But Lieutenant Colonel Bartolome Bacarro in a statement appealed to the troops to stay calm.

He said the military would not join Trillanes and asked the soldiers not to believe in what the senator and Lim are saying.

"We are confident the rule of sovereignty will prevail," said Lim in his short speech.

National Police Director General Avelino Razon has called the officers of the PNP for a meeting.

Several soldiers from the Philippine Air Force and men from the PNP have barricaded the Manila Peninsula, according to reports.

A detailed website immediately appeared on the Internet, announcing Lim and Trillanes as the leaders of the uprising. The site called on the Filipino people to mass in the financial district.

I admire people with the burning desire to change our government for the better. Likewise, I am disgusted with people who acts spontaneously without considering all options/concerns. The more I see Trillanes IV on on the news, the more he gets stupid. Tsk..tsk..guapo pa naman..

NO, NO, NO, NO!!! His latest action has put another serious dent on the improving impression by foreign investors and foreign countries on our economy and political stability. While everyone is looking forward to a brighter future (slowly but surely) for the country, here is a guy, and his bunch of cohorts trying to picture the country as hopelessly headed to destruction and the only way to save it is by unseating the president. And who would replace the President? Trillanes? Or a bigger name behind him? All complains but no better solution to offer? He should have used his resources as senator to help the country achieve a better economy and political stability. His latest action was nothing but rediculous and condemnable. He never learned his lesson from the oakwood!

The Oakwood attempt was a testament that people are already tired of such acts.

Trillanes from the very start was wrongly ambitious and opportunist. In fact, I suspect that all of his decisions to run for senator and lately - hole up in Manila Penn hotel were really not his ideas. Some group must have been using him. For instance - they prodded him to run for senator but didn't tell him that He could never take the seat. When He won, but couldn't take the seat they probably thought He has gathered more support for being pictured as underdog or martyred - so the coup. It was a well prepared plan of escape but stupidly short of sight on the endgame. This clearly showed how his mind worked: He is a soldier but didn't see that without people support they couldn't last a minute with the fire power that they have. Imagine? A mere tear gas sent them all inside a room???! They didn't even reached the middle game! This should put Trillanes' career to end - six feet below the ground.

It is amazing to me that those that support the Trillanes' of the Philippine are the very people that always say they support him because the President is corrupt. The Philippines will remain corrupt until the people of the Philippines discover what corruption really is. I said it earlier corruption is taking something that does not belong to you in an immoral or illegal way or doing something you do not have the legal right to do.

Senator Trillanes and even Cory Aquino has taken to the streets to over throw the President totally ignoring the rule of law and the Constitution. If people ignore the law before taking power why do you think they would respect the law after taking power. Some are too young to know, some have simply forgotten Marcos was a great President when he first took power. The Philippines grew and was doing great. Eventually what was good for the people was no longer his Administrations priority. The people began to suffer. I truly believe that Marcos and his Administration thought what they were doing was right and good for the people because they thought what was good for them was good for the people. Trillanes is another one who thinks what is good for him is good for the people.

My prayer is the bishop and priest are charged, convicted and senteneced to prison along with Trillanes and his people. But it will never happen in the Philippines. Because the Catholic Church has too much influence in the Philippines. Freedom of speech and using your authority, power, position, or personality to overthrow a sitting government are two differnt things. The U.S.A. is one of the most free societies in the world, but those freedoms are restricted when people of influence call for the overthrow or assination of a political figure.

The men of the clergy got the wrong message from Pope John Paul II when he became the main power in over throwing the government of Poland. The world turned a blind eye to his influence because Poland was a Communist country and he was the Pope. Now the men of the clergy believe they can call for the overthrow of any government they do not agree with even a government within a democratic society. Jesus always instructed his followers to obey the law of the land. I suppose some in the clergy have come to believe they can even ignore Jesus' teachings if they do not agree with them.

So you support Trillanes well if you do then you wittingly or unwittingly support corruption. If you do not support a nation of law and order then you are part of the problem.

YES!

He is the New Ninoy! Of course, there would be another Ninoy but he is the closest Filipinos have had. He is fighting for what he thinks is right. He is fighting for majority of the people. He is fighting for the 11 Million Filipinos who voted for him.

GMA should just step down. He is the worst president we've had. From the Hello Garci tapes, to the 2004 elections she obviously cheated, to the Jose Pidal bank accounts, to the extrajudiciary killings, to the ZTE Contracts that she & her husband should have made a lot of money, to the red tapes she gave to Congressmen, to the bombings she started.

When should Filipinos wake up? I think it should be now.

Shame on you Mrs. Arroyo! Shame on you! Mahiya ka naman sa tatay mo. Mahiya ka naman kay Ninoy. Mahiya ka naman sa Diyos. (That is if you still have a God).

Given the chance, I think I would work for Senator Trillanes. I believe in everything he said and everything he's done.

We here in the Middle East thank you, Shirley, for bringing this news to us, as at this time, we are at work and cannot switch radio or TV, or we will be fired from work.

Personally, I have always played it safe in politics.

The only excuse for rebellion is victory.

At this point in time, the odds are heavily against Trillanes and therefore, I shall go with the tide and oppose him, villify him, nail him to the cross and break him. However, there is no telling where the tide of fortune goes in the next few hours.
If it goes in his favor, I shall most definitely extoll all his virtues, place laurel on his head, and sing him praises.

This is the same thing he has been 'fighting' for in the past. Nothing new.

There wasn't much of an event in recent years, except the Oakwood incident in 2003, so I doubt that there would be any major clamor or activity to support him.

no. i wont support Sen Trillanes' call for the withdrawal of support to GMA. these people from the start had been trying many ways to put down GMA. instead of destabilizing the government, why don't they just help the poor people? did they ran for a position just to put the Country in shame?! anyways, i think they are just envious of GMA. if they are in the President's position im sure they will do worse.

No offense my friends who are not in favor of GMA but the prices are getting higher because of scarcity of food. Many farms are sold to become a subdivision for people to live in. I think the worst problem is not our government but its overpopulation. More people means more demand in food, that's why the prices are getting higher for us, Filipinos. But life must go on... One request... more land must be given to farmers for them to provide us food.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Anyway, I blame Marcos (although he's a good president at first) for corrupting money he loaned that is supposed to be used for the development of our country. It's unfair for the Filipinos who are not yet born because they have a debt to pay without realizing it. And Paying Taxes is the only solution to pay these loans.

Let us not destroy our government but rather help ourselves to have a better living and not blaming everything on the government.

I think GMA is a great president but she also make mistakes like us, so give her a chance. I trust her. She won't declare Martial Law because I can see her ideas of making this country better in her last 3 years of her term.

The answer for your question is: no. He's moves are not appropriate. Many people were harmed because of this... I felt sorry for the businessman at Makati and also the owner and employees of Peninsula Hotel.

PS: Don't take this answer againsts me because I have a right to say my own opinion and feelings. I'm sorry if I ofended some...I'm just saying what I feel.

No because I'm not stupid. I'm not a fan of GMA but Trillanes is a megalomaniac.

I support Bopols' suggestion.

support them?! hell, no.
they should be punished with the full extent of the law, lock them up and never to be let out!
thinking if someone like him-trillanes & his conspirators in a position to lead our government, someone in-charge of people with arms & goons , our situation might go for the worst 10 folds.

his means of change is reckless, stupid, without thought, dangerous to himself & to public with the guns his supporters carry, plain kahihiyan.

why does bonifacio didnt became our national hero, because like what rizal said, a pen is mightier than a sword. he should follow rizal's example if he wants to be a hero.

No. They're stirring up the military for their own good. They have to face the cases against them first before callling for a military withdrawal of support for GMA. They're avoiding the rule of law.
