Ok, well today my mom got really mad at me in the morning becasue she saw me chewing my nails. She slapped me across the face, and then took my camera away, and dropped my phone on the floor so it broke. She took all of my monay, and canceled my orthodontist appointment [i was supposed to get braces.] Then, she wouldn't let me go to school and washed my face and put soap in my eyes. I started wailing and said no, mom im goig to school, so i jsut ran past her outside. I was cryning the whole time. The biggest problem that I'm still crying about its that she canceled my orthodontist appointment. I have really bad teeth, and I've waited about 2 months for this appointment. The appointment was gonig to be tomorrow! Ugh. I jsut can't get over it.

So, this all happened because I chew my nails. I feel like all my parents think about is my outward appearance. They threw out junk food [im not fat], stop chweing my nails, and told me to get a haircut or im not geting braces. pleas cheer me up

And also, my parents don't care about such things as grades. On my current report card I got all A's except for 2 B+'s, adnd they kept bothering me about ont getting ALL A's.

Well, if all they care about is on the outside seems to me like they would want you to have braces. That seems pretty unfair. You do need to do as they requested since they said that you couldn't have the braces until you did as they requested and they went through with the threats. Seems a bit much to me, however, chewing nails is a sign of nervousness and you need to get to the root of your nervousness. Also, start taking better care of your nails , when you see how nice they looked when groomed you may start to realize that you do not want to damage them by chewing them off after all that primping to save them and keep them nice. ; This will increase your chances of meeting your parents ultimatums and also increase your chances of getting the braces. If you really want them, and you do and really need them then bite the bullet and try the alternative. From my view seems the only way to win is follow the rules of their game. GO for it, you may just thank them when people start noticing how nice your nails look.

Personally, I think your parents sound really awful. Biting one's nails is not a big deal at all. There are far worse habits people can have.

Soap in your eyes? That's child abuse. You should tell someone you trust and get this problem sorted out before it gets any worse. You don't deserve to be treated so abusively by anyone, ever.

I'm sure she was thinking why spend so much money on braces for your teeth when you're chewing your nails, which could damage the appliance and/or make your treatment last longer.

However, she overreacted. Slapping you, breaking your phone, taking away your camera and money were terrible things to do to you.

I believe communication is the key, which is why I always talk with my 13-year-old son and never punish. Is it at all possible to sit down with your mom and talk with her? Perhaps you could ask her if you don't bite your nails for X amount of time if you could set up another orthodontist appointment. Truly, biting nails is damaging to teeth. Best luck to you and keep up the good grades. You're doing great!

As written I feel very very sorry for you, but honestly unless your mom is a fruitcake I find it hard to believe that she was just reacting to your biting your nails...and she did all of this but allows you to keep your computer???. I would like to hear her side, also I dont belive that your parents dont care about your grades.

Your parents suck. I am a mom of 2 girls and would never treat them like that. They should be ashamed of themselves. Keep up the good work at school and even if they don't appreciate it, keep doing it. It is your future.

You need to report your parents for emotional and physical abuse. They send like @ssholes, to put it kindly. Talk to your school counselor, then the police. Seriously.

NO THAT'S NOT FAIR . YOUR PARENTS SOUNDS LIKE THEY HAVE SOME MAJOR ISSUES WITH THEM SELF TO TREAT YOU LIKE THIS. I WOULD NEVER DO THIS TO MY KIDS. WHO CARES IF YOU CHEW YOUR NAILS. IT'S NOT LIKE YOU'RE GOING TO DIE FROM CHEW THEM. HOPE THINGS GET BETTER.
