i have done every thing by the book. love him so much, but today i put a harnes on him for the first time and he hated it, pouncing every were. he tried to snuggle his way out of it and it got stuck on him back and belly. i was scared to put it on tight. and seggestions on how to get him used to it?

Just hold him while it's on him so he can get used to it.
Some ferrets don't even like the harness, and never will.

They always act like that at first. If it's not on tight it's not safe to have them outside. Make sure you've got the figure H harness, not the figure 8 one The H has two buckles, they hold on better. A figure 8 can be squirmed out of by any ferret.
Get him used to a lot of handling, and smoothing your hands down his body like a tube. The harness won't feel so strange then. Reward him with a raisin once it's on.
Sometimes a dab of Linotone (the oil they really like) on the belly will keep them occupied long enough to get the harness attached and the leash on.
I do recommend the book Ferrets for Dummies, it's very good! Also, sign into some ferret bulletin boards and talk to ferret owners over there too. You can get some good info when you need it.

My ferrets really don't like the harness, but when I put it on it means they are going to go somewhere. I've taken them to the pet shops, the vet and other places which allow pets. They forget about the harness in new environments - they are smelling new things, checking things out and just having a blast about being somewhere new and interesting, and they forget about the harness.
Best bet is what someone posted - give a drop or two of Linatone, or some other treat to keep them distracted from what you are doing. Make sure you have everything ready to put the harness on, quickly. Maybe give an extra treat for being good. Dooks!

Try putting it on him for a short time everyday and let them run around in it and get used to it that way. Give him treats while he's wearing the harness. Perhaps that way he'll eventually come to like it. Some ferrets never do though and that's something you'll have to deal with if that happens.

A lot of ferrets hate harnesses so it's a totally normal reaction. Why are you putting a harness on him anyway? It's getting too cold to take him outside and inside there's no reason to have him harnessed.

my first ferret hated the harness and never got used to it. maybe you can put the harness on and let the ferret walk around with it without you holding on to it. just watch to make sure that he does not get tangled up.
