Dems support Big Government while today's Repubs support Huge Government.
Dems support taxing Americans to balance the budget. Today's Repubs support spending money the nation does not have thereby devaluing the US dollar.
Today's Repubs are responsible for record high deficits. It is obvious that many of today's Repubs are not True Conservatives. Those that are have had their voice overrun by the neo-cons who call themselves Repubs.

Republicans traditionally favor big business, while Democrats tend to favor the middle class and poor. Republicans traditionally favor smaller government (though this has not recently been true) while the Democrats favor more government programs.

There's not necessarily any difference in the person. There are differences in each party's official views, however.
