I can think of seven Odyssey referenences not mentioned above.

Calypso is a ship that belonged to the famous TV oceanographer, Jacques Cousteau.

A kind of computer virus is called a Trojan Horse.

Nausicaa was a Japanese comic book heroine; an anime film was based on that series.

There was an X-Men character called Cyclops.

Another comic book character (in the Spider-Man series) was called Calypso. She was a villain.

Then there was the Stanley Kubrick movie, 2001: A Space Odyssey.

Lastly, REM recorded a song called "Lotus" which contains the refrain, "I ate the Lotus."

Robert Graves wrote a novel called Homer's Daughter, which suggests that the Odyssey was written by Nausicaa, who took some events happening in her own family and grafted them onto the story of Odysseus. The theory of Nausicaa as author had already been advanced in the 19th century by Samuel Butler in The Authoress of the Odyssey.

Any film, book, or television show that features a character moving from place to place while seeking some goal, especially if that goal is home, draws from the Odyssey to some extent—which is why they are often referred to as "odysseys"! Examples include "The Fugitive" (TV show) "Homeward bound," (movie and book), "The Incredible Hulk" (TV show), "Logan's Run" (Book, film, TV series), etc. etc.

if you want extra brownie points, point out to your teacher the poem Ulysses by Alfred Tennyson.

It is a continuation of the Odyssey story written by the Victorian poet Alfred Tennyson that chronicled what happened after the Odyssey.

SUPER BROWNIE POINTS!!!
