You can't teach speed, but you CAN max the performance of your fast twitch fibers.
The power lifting moves that the kid above talked about will help, as well as short sprints (I am talking about intervals with distances of 10 - 40 yards) out of your game stance. It also wouldn't hurt to do some agility or balance drills (shuttles and zig-zags with cones), since that's similar to running in the game.
One more thing. Do some flexibility stuff / stretches. if you don't, and you hurt yourself, you'll lose everything you've gained.
good luck

There is an old coaching saying that the one thing you can't teach is speed. You either got it or you don't. Now working out hard on your leg strength and running skills will marginally increase your speed, it won't make you go from 'pretty slow' to 'explosive speed', no way.

being that i am a track sprinter and punt return/kick return for jayvee, my coach has me do a couple of exercises to work on muscles call, twitch fibers for explosiveness
1.Snatches-take a bench press bar w/ weights on the end, and from the ground, snatch it upward and thrust it up, and drop.
it really works your thighs and lower back.
2-squats
3-leg press (use a machine)
4-cone springs-set up a line of cones, zig zag through them one way, hop w/ both feet over them the way back

play out on the highway, you'll either run fast there or you won't, but either way, you'll be motivated... seriously though, i ran with a truck tire strapped to me and just ran up and down the bleachers
