Not sure about scary, but it is a lil creepy and strange...

“Dead Man! Dead Man Walking" the echo of the voice rang out . A cell door clanged and keys jangled in the near distance.
"…….In My Time of Dyin' I think it is best to simply offload my troubles so I can go with a clear conscience. I need to start from the beginning, Father Bob, and tell you what really happened on that fateful day at Magic Hollow. They should call it Devil’s Hollow.

It seems like 100 years I been waiting to tell someone the truth. It happened 5 years ago but I can remember it just like my last breakfast this morning.

Maxie and me, well we’d been friends for way over 40 years and never a harsh word spoken between us. But he pushed me too far by betraying me with his monkeying behind my back with my sassy girlfriend Carla. She weren’t the most beautifullest woman in the Lone Star Saloon but she sure could sing the legs off any of them fancy o-pera singers. It might have been just my imagination running away with me but I thought she gonna be ALL mine…that was until the day I overheard her and Maxie plannin’ to run away together. That got me so darn tootin’ angry, but calm as cotton I told Maxie I would be waitin’ fer him at Magic Hollow to do some more prospectin’ on our claim. But I got there before him and lay in wait….I knew our friendship was never gonna be the same again.

We got to the claim by horseback. After we set up the camp I sat down calmly and told Maxie what I knew about him and Carla. Well Maxie’s face turned a shade of red I aint even seen on Old Glory! We argued and tussled in the dust and just as Maxie turned to hobble for his horse I……I am so ashamed Father Bob.” “Go ahead my son, tell me everything “ said Father Bob. “I hit him over the head with a shovel, tied him up and…..buried him alive. No-one has found him yet, but the Sheriff was smart enough to know what happened and here I am. But that’s just the first part” The shocked Reverend wiped his brow with a large handkerchief “go on” he said looking concerned and amazed at the story he had been told.

“ I was still so wild and mad and all that, that I went back into town and tracked down Carla and shot her in cold blood with my huntin’ rifle. Now I am goin’ to be with my precious Carla and I hope that Maxie aint there where I’m goin” Father Bob couldn’t reply he was so stunned by these revelations.

“Don’t worry bout my soul Father Bob…..cos I’m plannin on taking you with me…..for leverage…..to get into heaven……Father Bob took one step back towards the cell door…..”don’t scream Father, that way it won’t hurt as much…..”

Almost 100 years ago, while at Magic Hollow, I smelt blood blowin' in the wind, and just let my imagination run away with me. "Ah, dead man, dead man and the Wolf of Velvet Fortune." I said. "I just hope this isn't in my time of dyin' for they love liver." When they appeared, my heart beat fast, and I said to my heart, "I almost hear you sigh, but you should be pump'n blood" As they approached there was no use in expecting an emotional rescue since I have been living in my head. The last time it was about elves, and I said then I would never be the same again.

It was (4) 100 years ago today down in (5) Magic Hollow when (6) The Wolf of Velvet Fortune, as it came to be known , was first reported. I can (1) almost hear you sigh thinking "Not that old story again."

Things are (1) never gonna be the same again; not for me anyway. Not since the day I saw the wolf for myself. You still think it's (2) just my imagination running away with me, but I know. I was there. And of course, Jimmy never came home that day. Most people thing he just got lost in the hollow and could not find his way back. They assume he probably fell into one of the deep holes found in the hollow and could not get out. I know better.

We were playing down by the hollow, despite or because of our parent's warning to stay away from there. We knew all the stories about children who had gone to the hollow and never returned, but those were years ago.

I spotted the coins first. They were spilling out of a velvet bag and were the brightest, shiniest coins I had ever seen. I remembered the stories I had heard about the hollow, but the coins were so pretty, and were just lying there for the taking. I hesitated briefly recalling the stories, but Jimmy immediately raced forward. Kneeling on the ground, he began scooping the coins into the bag.

I was about 20 feet from him when I heard the voice, an errie hollow, dead sounding voice repeating (8) Dead Man, Dead Man. My blood turned cold as shivers of fear raced through my body. I saw Jimmy start to rise, clutching the bag in one hand and looking around for the source of the spectral voice. I could see the fear on his face. He had heard the stories too. As he turned toward me, I saw his eyes grow big with terror. He appeared to be looking past me. As I turned to see what he was looking at, a hugh beast, half human, half wolf charged past me. I stumbled and nearly fell to the ground. As I regained my balance, I turned to see where the beast had gone. The beast had disappeared as quickly as it had appeared, and Jimmy was no longer standing where he had been seconds before.

I didn't know whether to run or search for Jimmy, but fear took control and I raced from the hollow as fast as my legs would carry me. I have felt guilty about that since that day. (9) In my time of dyin', I hope I can find a way to forgive myself for not being braver and perhaps saving Jimmy. Over the years, many people have tried to come to my (3) emotional rescue, but none was able to help me. I still see the terror in Jimmy's eyes every day.

I never had any kids of my own. In fact, I never married. I remained in the village my entire life, fearful of the beast I had seen, but unwilling to abandon Jimmy further. Perhaps thinking some day I might find him, save him from the horrible fate I knew he faced that day. Or maybe I thought I could save someone else from such a fate. Whatever it was, I could not leave despite my fear. I never heard of anyone else disappearing since that day, so perhaps my presence is somehow helping.

I never saw the beast again, but sometimes, late at night, I can hear the words "Dead Man, Dead Man" (7) blowin' in the wind. Maybe it's just my imagination, but I am never going down to the hollow again to find out. If your ever down there and see some coins on the ground, run as fast as you can in the opposite direction or you will surely meet the same fate as Jimmy.
