I'm reading Yankee fans posts stating he will be great to trade off. Am I the only one who sees he is going to be phenomenal in the near future? Even for Santana?

Yes, I hear you guys when you say Hughes might not be an excellent player, but chances are he will be. There's also a chance Santana might blow out his arm next year, how come no one mentions this?

Wow. Believe me, I was pissed off when I found out that Phil might be traded off. He has MAJOR potential. Perhaps a little rusty, but for his first year he shone! He will be phenomenal very soon. The kid's a gem. He's got talent, no doubt about it. And he may have to work on a few things, but he was, in my opinion, he's been quite successful.

Yankees Love. <3

Hughes is a top prospect for the Yankees which is a rarity for the Yankees but they tend to not care about that and would rather have a proven player then a player too groom. Hughes would definitely would be part of the trade for Santana because well Santana still can do it for 10 plus years, and there's no gurantee on what Hughes can do or if he'll stay healthy.

I agree with you, however most Yankee fans like the proven players as opposed to the untested, potential stars. As much as I would like to get Santana in pinstripes, I don't want to see the future get traded away to get him. At least I can be happy about the fact that the Yankees are after a pitcher who isn't 1000 years old.

Hughes has yet to prove himself, while Santana has shown over the last four years that he is one of the best starting pitchers in the major leagues. Hughes might be good, and he also might flop or get injured.

It's still too early to tell how good Hughes will be, Santana is a favorite to win the AL Cy Young entering every season.

There is no way you can compare Hughes to Santana. At best Hughes has good penitential and Santana is the best pitcher in baseball. If you remove your emotions and feelings for Hughes you would clearly see it is a deal they would have to do if Santana is on the other end of the deal.

while it's great to believe that he will be phenomenal, only a few actually get to be that.

So, while hughes MAY be great, Santana is.
Remember, prior to even signing, Brien Taylor was supposed to be Ron Guidrey. Never pitched in the majors.

Just because you have talent it doesnt mean that are going to light up the majors.

He may well do that and only time will tell.

What if they dont get Johan and then Hughes get smacked around everywhere? Dont forget he is very young and may split time between MLB and AAA this year.

I see it the other way, overhyped. He may live up to the hype, but right now he's just another youngster with tons of potential. Many of them shine brightly for a short time then fizzle out.
