I think the Mother of the baby is caring and scared. She loves the baby and knows someone at the church would care for it like she did. I would say a little prayer for her and the baby.

At least the lady left the baby at a church that is "in town." I can imagine the horrors if the baby had been left at a rural church building where people might not come for several days! Don't smack that woman! She did ok, even though there are better places like fire stations, the hospital, etc. etc.

This used to be a fairly common practice in the days before birth control and abortion became widely available. The women would hide their pregnancies and give birth in secret. Then they would leave the babies on the steps of a church in the hopes that somebody would find them and take care of them. I don't condone what this mother did but it is clear she meant for the baby to be found by someone by leaving it in a public place. It would have been better if she had taken it to a fire station or a hospital but at least in this case, someone found the baby and it is being cared for now.

I think the person that left the baby, did a very smart thing. He/she could have done even smarter thing by leaving it a police station or hospital. If they left the baby they felt they could not care for it properly. Better to have given it up now than let the baby have a miserable life.

Part of me wants to say the mother and/or father didn't deserve a child in the first place. But more than that, the other part of me thinks they probably did this baby a great service and may have meant it to be the ultimate sacrifice to give the child a better living. At least she/he wasn't another brain-dead parent stuffing their baby in the trash. I hope the child has a full and happy life now.

I agree with Kathy. It could have been worse. It makes me wonder what made the person do this. Financial reasons? There are always adoption agencies. Poor baby. =[ Hopefully, the person had a really really really good reason.

It may have been an easier choice for the mother than having an abortion or going through all the legal means of giving the child up for adoption.

Ever wonder what will happen in time?
When the little one grew up?
Will he not be climbing up the coconut tree?
Look at the mess in the real world?
Searching for mum and dad?
Then grew up as "I was an ape-man"
Without mum and dad.

atleast they didn't kill the baby...
there are better places to leave a baby if you can't take care of it...the hospital...the police dept...but a church works.
