Look at the way he came to be the pm , only by back stabbing, and have his people to vote for him as leader, and look at what happen to Australia because of it.
Anyone who was against John Howard was quickly removed to the back bench and was gagged from speaking out.
Now that he has been voted out by Australians and from his own seat .
He is out completely from Parliament and cannot have anymore to say about this country's future.
No he was not so popular among the Liberal Party & Co about some of those policies that he made and made sure that it would be his way and not any of his parties.
An now thanks to Labor we will see that all of those policies that Howard imposed on Australia will be shredded.

No, Howard was never popular with me and never gained my vote. But I am a B.A. with a politics Major and think about what I am shown or told. Howard was extremely lucky in getting away with three 'scare campaign' election runs and tried it a fourth time by trying to terrify middle-class Australia with images of Union thugs costing jobs and conditions and his I.R. policies protecting and benefiting workers, he only used examples in the mining industry and other areas where location or skills demand high rewards, not looking at other areas where families had been taken from 'moderately comfortable' to unemployed and a 'welfare recipient' with a 'working mans' mortgage. Some-one would do their job for less!! All in all the electorate had 'had enough' and with uncertainty about his retirement he just "drove a few more nails in the Coalition coffin."

Dito Gershon ben David........could not have said it better myself. 13 years is a long time, the second longest time and for all the reasons you said plus he is just a decent guy.
The only way to look at it is as a generational change for Kevin Rudd.
What Howard should have done was move aside gracefully 10 months ago and leave whilst on top and allow for the party to refresh. Remember John Howard came to power when this generation was in nappies and now there saying whys this guy still here we need a change!!!!!!!!!

During the incompetent leadership of John Howard we had High interest rates, Fridge Magnets be alarmed not alert & relaxed & comfortable in a John Howard's republic. He was a very divisive person, very inapproachable and rude. He was the person who called GW Bush a personal friend.
Nobody can say the same about Kevin Rudd!
John Howard governed by fear & lies
John Howard now can spend more time with the Exclusive Brethren

John Howard was the best prime minister that Australia ever had and will be sorely missed.
Australia had the longest period of economic prosperity with Howard as prime minister and he was not frightened to make tough decisions.
Labor just stuffs everything up, I hate it when Labor gets in.

He should just leave. He had lost touch with the people. How could he have introduced Workchoices? And he didn't tell anyone beforehand. Australia is more than an economy. Nobody also likes to be in Iraq. The people have spoken. Let's have a new beginning.

During the competent leadership of John Howard we had low unemployment, low inflation, low interest rates. John Howard was a very easy going person, very approachable and friendly. He was the person, who you would like to call a personal friend. I can not say the same about Kevin Rudd!
