back in august I used my debit card to dial a phone sex number(stupid on my part and i'm not proud of it) and a day or 2 later I couldn't find my card so i reported it lost/stolen like anyone with half a brain.in the middle of october the company that ran the hot line called me and said that someone had used my phone with a stolen card.anyway, when i called them back they seemed to know it was me and that it was my card.basically they said if i didn't pay them the left over amount that i didn't have in my debit card, they'd charge me with credit card fraud and identity theft, which doesn't make any sense to me since it was ME using MY card.oh,and the person i talked to wanted me to send the money via western union, which seemed odd to me.they never sent me a bill or anything so i don't even know if the amount they're asking for is legit.i've never been in trouble with the law at all so hopefully they go easy on me

Tell them you are willing to pay the charges if they send you a bill, and record the conversation. When they send you the bill pay it. If they continue to harrass you inform them that you will take action for the harassment, and reiterate that you will pay them if they send you a written bill. Of course you will record this as well.

Well you should get something from your credit card company that states the date you reported your card stolen, send that to the hot line so they can see the date you called and the date you reported it stolen. (you called on the 5th and reported it stolen the 8th) theres no way it can be fraud. You should pay them but if you don't it might be a mark on your credit score or go into collections, I'm not really sure how those places work.

When you reported it lost/stolen did your bank ask about charges that were on your acct all ready and any that you had legitimately done which hadn't shown up yet? If so then they were paid. And no it wouldn't be identity theft, but might be attempting to defraud if they weren't paid. Sounds more like a scam to me tho. If I were you I would get a lawyer and have them look into it. If it is a scam they will find out and be able to shut them down as far as hassling you goes.

Well, you can always go to court - but you will have to admit what you just admitted to in public.
It sounds like you made the call and then had second thoughts so you reported the card stolen to "make it go away".

Don't send them anything till you get a bill! They cant charge you with anything all they can do is send you to a collection agency. Don't worry they are just trying to scare you into paying and they cant press criminal charges.

Tell them to go ahead and take a good dump while they're at it. You'll NEVER get arrested for that, but they might continue to harrass you over the charge that you owe.

"they seemed to know it was me"
"hopefully they go easy on me"
these are dead giveaways that you tried to get out of paying them, and reporting a card stolen when it wasn't is fraud.
Life is full of tough lessons, so 'fess up, man up, and pay up.
