Is it just a common thing that they don't even think about? I know for Americans, visiting other states is just part of what we do sometimes for business, etc. It's nice and exciting to go see another state, but we're all still just americans. It isn't like traveling to another country where the people speak different languages, etc.

The people in Europe have more time of and as such will more often go out of the country for holidays.
Business trips are a little less likely, as most business in country based and not that much in Europe wide (yet.)

In some countries the people are more likely to travel abroad, at the drop of a hat, but the English, on their island, are a bit less footloose.

But even in a country where the majority goes abroad several times a year there are many people who will not leave their own country, some not even their own county or equivalent.
Languages are not much of a hindrance, it are the legal points why businesses do not go abroad yet.
