No, it's not okay. Every abortion kills a living human being. This is not an opinion, but a simple biological fact. By the time most women know they are pregnant (just 3 weeks after conception), their baby's heart is already beating. It's wrong to kill innocent human beings.

I don't necessarily think that it is okay, but I am definitely pro-choice. People who are pro-life have very emotional arguments against abortion.

This is my opinion....Objectively, it is sometimes the only option for women whose health is going to be negatively affected by the pregnancy. For example, say the woman has an ectopic pregnancy...she can't possibly keep the baby AND live. Sometimes, the fetus is not developing properly or the parents are too poor/in danger/addicted to substances to take care of the baby. Or, if a woman is raped and becomes pregnant, she more than likely will not want to keep the baby. The problem is that some people think that abortions are a form of birth control. They are not, and I'm not promoting them...I'm just saying that they are a viable option available to women, as is adoption. Women should always have the right to choose.

There are so many factors, but don't just fall for an argument based on false science. Research can't prove that a baby can "feel" it.

i have know women who have had abortions. some women think that it is the only choice that they have or that at the time it is a good choice. but the women who i have known live to regret it latter in life, they live each day wondering what if. some have it as a secret and it haunts them every day. no i do not think that there is ever a reason for an abortion. if i had a Friend who was thinking about it i would give her lot to think about, this is a life from the first time that the egg meets the sperm. but this is a choice that , they must make and live with.

Yes I do, but abortion is not for everyone. However, every woman should have the ability to make the choice for herself. She should not be pressured by outside forces either for or against. I have had an abortion (don't know if that makes me an expert or not), and would have another if necessary.

we were just talking about this wantching the debate on tv..
My opnion is abortion is not ok, unless it is the product of rape, the child will be deformed severly or it is going to compermise the life of mother or child as in if mom is going to give birth and die or kill the baby, it is ok to abort. I do NOT feel that it is ok if a woman gos out spreds her legs ends up preg. and decides she doesnt want it. There are plenty of people that want to adopt...

I'll bet you your teacher has read more abortion papers than youth smoking papers.

i do not agree with abortion at all. i can understand the date rape drug and the morning after pill because it is before actual conception, but abortion is just wrong. i don't care if you can't make out the baby's face yet, it's a baby!!!!!

Good luck with your paper! This is a bit long, but....

Whether you think abortion is ok or not - the fact remains that it is legal in the United States and is, therefore, a personal choice for any woman considering one.

Having worked in women's health care for many years I can tell you that I have rarely come across any woman who had opted for an abortion who did not in some way regret it. That is not to say they made the wrong choice but it is a hard choice to make and not one that is easily forgotten. The women I have worked with who have given children up for adoption also carry a great deal of regret - often to the point of requiring counseling in order to deal with the ongoing doubts and concerns about the child they have given up.

For the people who blithely say that a woman who makes a mistake for one night and should just accept a lifetime of responsibility or give up the baby for adoption are close-minded. They should try walking in the shoes of the people they are condemning and see if they still come out with their thoughtless cliches.

Although I fully support a woman's right to choose, I have opted out of helping to perform abortions when working in the operating room, except for cases which require one in order to save the woman's life. The reason I opt out is because of the sadness that surrounds the procedure and I see enough sadness in my job working with female cancer patients. In addition, I have never, despite what the anti-abortionists say, seen any tissue (embryonic or fetal) that resembles the horrific posters and other propaganda materials dispensed by the anti-abortion groups. So, I believe that much of what those folks claim to be the truth is, in fact, a bunch of fabricated garbage used to scare and horrify people needlessly.

Anyone here who thinks they know something about what an embryo, fetus, or baby feels in utero is kidding themselves if they base their opinion on one propaganda movie like silent scream. The movie was made by an anti-abortion group - not a group of people I would consider objective scientists.

Like I said - good luck with your paper, hope you get an A!

EDIT - And for all the folks here who say that adoption is an option and that there are plenty of people waiting to adopt a baby - yes its true that there is a huge "market" for healthy white babies. But for any child born without white skin or with even a minor birth defect, disease, or other health issue - most of those children will not find an adoptive home and will be institutionalized until they are 18 and then basically tossed out on the street by social services. I would really like to see if any of the people here who claim that adoption is an option would be willing to take in one of these "non-white" children, especially if they have a health issue. I'm guessing not one of them would take in a child like that - hypocrites!

In my opinion i would say that there situations that if a woman chooses to have abortion it might not be the wrong choice. (for example pregnancy resulting from rape) but if a woman is just not responsible enough to have protected sex fully aware of the possible outcome. like i said just MY opinion, hope this helps.

No I do not I feel that if you are going to spread your legs and get pregnant then you should take responsibility for the child and if you really don't want to or can't then there is always adoption. I don't think that you should kill a helpless baby just because you don't want it there are lots of families put there that want kids and can't have them so if you don't want the baby put it up for adoption so some family can have a baby.
