What quantity must be added the following expression to make it a perfect square trinomial?

If it's a perfect square it must have half of 12 as its second term in each binomial: (x-6)(x-6). And when you do this out you get 36 at the end.

You would need to add 36. You take half of the number with the x, the 12 and then square the half. You would get 6^2=36.
