I want to take a trip to the Philippiness to go see my girlfriend in Cotabato City. Which airline/travel agency is best to go with if I am planning to go in March. What does one need to go over there if I am from U.S.A. Any information is greatly appreciated.

1. Passport - Don't need a visa unless you plan to stay >21 days
2. Money - Prices are extremely reasonable but you still need money for unexpected stuff.
3. After your airline ticket is punched and you're about to exit the airport to get on the plane, you'll have to pay the airport tax, so have some loose change in your pocket. It can range from 5,000 pesos in Manila to about 100 pesos in CdO.
I made my own reservations w/o travel agency help. I searched all the online travel sites until I got a good price. I made 3 trips. I remember Delta & Philippine Airlines the first trip, then JAL from Tokyo to Manila the 2nd trip. The last trip was Continental going, and Northwest coming back.

You need to know that you don't get even close to the airport without a ticket, so don't expect gf to be waiting when you get off. In fact, even the Manila airport closes overnight, so you need to be aware of what time you can arrive and expect to enter the terminal. I had to sleep outside on a bench at the international terminal waiting for it to open.

ALWAYS take an airport taxi - it's cheaper and safer. They have a desk INSIDE the airport adjacent to the baggage area where you get a taxi ticket. They are most reasonable and your trip is tracked. Plus, you pay in advance so you don't get ripped off. ( A tip I learned from a Malay gentleman I met on the plane).

Lastly, you picked the worst area of Philippines to visit. It is predominantly Muslim area there, and there's a war going on in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao. My best advice is the check all the travel advisories before you commit. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autonomous_Region_in_Muslim_Mindanao

In any case, good luck and let me know if you have any questions.

Why dont you take Philippine Airlines where you can land in a nice airport and not too crowded area.
There's a Travel Agency in your place who cateer and do the planning for your visit here. or you may log on in the internet lookin for Travel Agency in the Philippines.

From the east coast I like to fly Cathay Pacific. They've got good fares and I prefer the stop in Hong Kong over stopping in Japan. You can go round trip, Jan-May, for about $1,200 right now from most east coast cities. They'll fly you non-stop from JFK airport in NY City to Hong Kong.

You can fly into Manila or Cebu on Cathay Pacific. If you don't need to go to Manila I strongly advise you to avoid it and fly into Cebu.

You can book domestic flights online. I like Cebu Pacific Air. You can book yourself online and use an e-ticket. Cebu Pacific Air flys 3 times per day from Cebu to Cotobato City for about $150 round trip.

I strongly advise you to have somebody meet you at the airport if this is your first trip there.

Trust nobody not personally known to you.
