It's surprising I'm asking this question for I just gave birth. Anyways, I read that breastfeeding is a source of natural birth control if practice correctly. Anyways, I don't really know if I ovulated or not, but on the day we had sex....... I had clear stretchy cervical mucous.... Could that be the sign of ovualtion? We had sex on November 22nd and I took a pregnancy test on the 27... it was NEgative... Could that be too early? It's hard for me to wait since I haven't got my period since I gave birth in July.

This past few days, I have felt lots of cramps. Could that be a sign of implantation happenning? Today, I kind of felt nausious but I think it's because I'm lack of sleep. My last pregnancy was planned...

Sorry for the "TMI"...

Please... serious answers only. I hate those people who answer so rudely and sarcastically.

Yes, breastfeeding can be effective IF you practice ecological or extended breastfeeding. That's different from how most women do it....and then are surprised when they conceive.

To supress ovulation while nursing you have to nurse on demand night and day and offer no bottles or pacifiers. The key is constant stimulation at the breast which supresses ovulation.

If you are not breastfeeding in that way, then it will NOT be a reliable form of birth control.

If you saw clear, stretchy cervical mucus then yes, that is a sign of returning fertility and possible ovulation. There's a great book you can get called The Art of Natural Family Planning that teaches you exactly how to watch for signs of ovulation when you are breastfeeding.

But if you have a sufficiently serious reason to postpone another pregnancy right now, I would suggest abstinence on days that you have fertility signs like stretchy cervical mucus. Wait for a couple of consecutive 'dry days' before resuming relations.

Congratulations on becoming a mother in July!

Breastfeeding is not a good source of birth control at all. Stretchy mucus is a sign of ovulation. It was about four or five months before I had my first cycle after my son. I have been trying to get pregnant and so far I haven't although I have ovulated. The cramps you are feeling could be a sign of implantation or it could be your uterus contracting to get back to it normal size. It is common to feel cramps when you are breastfeeding. Hope that helped!

If you are only using the practice of breastfeeding as birth control then YES there is definitley a possibility that you could be pregnant again. Even with the great detail of your discharge no one is going to be able to tell if you are really pregnant. You should go to your ob/gyn... if you gave birth in July, you should be back on your period by now. Good Luck!

Breast feeding can delay ovulation for up to 24 months or more provided you are nursing exclusively night and day. So your baby should not be sleeping through the night without nursing. They have to suckle at the breast regularly for this form of "birth control" to work effectively.

You might wait to test again. 5 days would be too early.

It is probably too early to use a pregnancy test since you had sex a few days ago. I would wait about a week and then try again.

wait, so you just gave birth did you? i doubt you'd be pregnant then, they say that if you're breastfeeding at least every 3-4 hours than its pretty hard to get pregnant, but i wouldnt go off that. oh, and it'd be too early for a pregnancy test, you'll have to wait a bit longer, like a month or so. but there are early detection tests you can take. are you on the mini pill? maybe you should go on that, or go to your doctor if you get more symptoms, just to check.
