Take the money now, the degree can always wait till latter, too often a great Career in sports is finished before they even get to the pros.
of course it would depend on how much money is being offered.

Trent Dilfer left to become Pro after his junior year at Fresno State, with a million dollar contract.

and like many Athletes went back in the off season and got his degree, it took a little longer, but now he has the best of both worlds.
ever though he has spent most of his career sitting on the bench, he is still drawing a very large paycheck.
and there is not very many professions that pay that kind of money.

Taking into account, that the child is in the middle of studying, I would suggest that he finishes his degree. As long as the child stays in shape, they can always go into the sporting world. And still make money.

Even if they have not started studying, I would encourage them to get some degree or trade certificate behind them first.

Many sporting stars, when they retire, get offered good positions, with lots of perks and money. But some don't, better to be safe than sorry.

One must also take into account what the child wants, and point out theconsepuences of making a bad decision. Their desires do count for a lot.

I would like to see them remain athletes at the college level, but injuries can happen there, too. It could be a real shame to turn down a pro career and get injured before they have a chance. Returning to school after a few years usually makes one a better student. So either way would work. It would depend on the sport, his/her size compared to older athletes, and what kind of student he/she was.

Depends on the child. Probably 3 of my kids would never go back to school but 2 would finish after the sports career ended.
I'd prefer they finish school first. But if it wasn't in business it might not help them manage the money.

If it was me in that position, I would make sure they new the consequences of their actions. If they were injured in practice or something there goes their career in whatever sport. And with no education to fall back on, what are they going to do. If they are as good as the pros supposedly think they are, an education is paramount, then if they wish to follow their dream of a sports career, fine. Look at how many football players have educations that many envy, but when they retire from football they can still practice a profession if they so choose. And many do too. Just my opinion.

Make the money, as it was stated you can get injured in school sports and end your career. Go for the money then go to school. No job pays more the an athlete so go for it now, save your money then go for the education, your career will only last a max of 15 years so still plenty young to go to school.

I would want them to finish their degree, even if they did turn Pro they could continue taking classes. I think an education is a wonderful thing and for me nothing learned is every wasted.

Show him or her the money.( if that is what he wants) You only have a few years to turn pro you can always get your degree.....Education is very important in our family.but so is waking up each day and liking your job and being a good person..........I tell my children and now my grandchildren it is most important to find something you are good at and like and then learn how to live on the money you make that is what is important to be a good person and to be happy...........
