Super Mario. Others are going to point to Wayne's points, but Mario had MUCH more adversity.

Also Wanye used to get a LOT more preferential treatment by the officials. (Yeah, I do have to talk a little sheet. I watched Gretzky too, and the officials made sure no one EVER got too rough with him.)

Anyways, for something less controversial, the greatest goon EVER was Bob Probert!

Wayne Gretzky

Apparently (I heard this, so this could be wrong), Gretzky once told one of him former teammates to move in front of the net a particular moment. He told him that he would pass him the puck and all he would have to do is move his stick and the puck will reflect off of the stick and into the net.

It worked.

I'd say that's pretty sweet for a center.

Gretzky is widely considered as the greatest NHL player. Period. He had a solid 20 years and his lowest point total was 48 points in 48 games in 1994 when half the season was cancelled due to a lockout led by none other than... surprise, Gary Bettman!! Mario is a good candidate for second, but he's not even close to Gretz. I think this is in part due to the fact that he was always nagged by injuries and the experience he had to go through with cancer.

Gretzky is the greatest player of all-time, let alone the best center... but Lemieux is great too. Just not as great as the Great One. I'd also put Messier ahead of Lemieux.

You ave to give it to 99 for what he did.
Better than Lemieux, NO, if 66 had 20 plus healthy years and there would be no argument.
Besides neither of them was as good as Orr.

Gretzky. Lemiuex was great, and #2 is not bad, but he isn't Gretzky -- maybe if he had been able to play uninjured he might have.

Try this. When they paired the two of them up during the 1987 Canada Cup, who played centre? Gretzky.
Why? Because Gretzky was the better playmaker. Mario is the better finisher.

Steve Yzerman, even with playing on one good knee during the back end of his career, was a better center than both of them.

please the only reason they each played center was to protect them, Mario stood in front of nets more and Gretz skated around players, so who's career lasted longer????

Gretz also had a team around him and the oil machine had opposing coaches retiring still wondering how to stop them, remember they won another cup without gretz.

Mario had to plead the Pens to get enough to get his rings!!!!
and then they won vs. minnesota!
