They are not computer smart like you, if you are so smart how come you have to ask about security. I am a grandparent, like really old and not as smart on computers as you kids (mind you I can spell). Yes they can access your stuff without a password if they know what they are doing, I would be into your laptop in thirty seconds max and have everything copied on to a USB drive in less than half an hour. If you don't believe an old git like me just listen to Kate. So if you are into crap that your parents should not see simply don't do it.

Yea there is if a second computer is in the house they can remove the hard drive, set the hard drive to slave from your computer and then put it in the other coputer. All the files and junk can be accessed relatively easy by doing this and can also remove any password that was applied IF they know what they are looking for.
There are certain programs that will password each individual files or folder which the password is a little harder to crack or bypass but it can still be done cause of other programs that can crack passwords. Windows can add passwords o files and folders but it is harder to go about than some of the programs and it doesn't keep certain programs from still opening the files up.

Oh, if you just go into deleting your cookies and histiry in hopes of not being caught that won't work. The .dat files contain all that information still and can not be deleted while Windows is using them. You would need a special program to read the .dat files but a lot of them are free to download and use anyway. program I have reads and then writes a .bat file and restarts the computer. When the computer restarts it will run the .bat file before the .dat files are accessed by Windows which then clears all data from the .dat files. After all information is cleared out then the .bat file can be deleted. All traces are truely gone now.

No, I actually specialize in recovering computer data. There isn't much you can do. Even after you delete a file or program, it can still be recovered. It all depends on how badly your parents want to get into your system.

As of how they would get in, they could contact somebody like me, or boot into safemode and access the hidden admin account and delete your password, or boot into a live cd, or they could even force you to unlock the computer for them.

As for browsing history, just deleteing your browers history won't cut it in most cases. Sites you visit leave traces all around your computer, it could be in your browser (which everybody seems to know about), it could be in your java reader, real player, shared object folder, and so on.

My advice is not to do anything sensitive on your computer.

Not usually u have to go to delete browzing history if you search bad stuff :\ Other than that just go to settings on ur laptop and set passwords and stuff. You can set a password on a screensaver.

Make a Completely inviable folder for hiding files somewhere on desktop or anywhere. They will not see it at all.

To do this:
1.Right-Click on desktop make a new folder.
for the name HOLD Alt and type 0160while holding it, and then release. This should make a blank name.
2. After that Right-Click Property the folder and hit customize tab at the top, and then change the icon, and pick a blank icon usually in the middle of them all.
3. Apply and then your all set.

Listen to Momma and stay out of the crap. Your parents are probably already suspicious and if they really want to, they WILL find a way into your computer.
