I asked this under politics but thought I might get some better answers under history.

Eisenhower was a popular president of his day. How has his two doctrines - Dynamic Conservatism and the Eisenhower Doctrine - effect politics today in regards to US spending and foreign policy towards the middle-east?

Dynamic conservatism is half-alive conceptually (there are plenty of fiscal conservatives who support the New Deal, but they are not acting decisively enough) and half-dead institutionally (the Department of Health, Education, and Welfare created by Eisenhower in 1953 was split into the Department of Education and the Department of Health and Human Services in 1979).

The Eisenhower Doctrine was used repeatedly, but invariably failed. The latest round of failures (Iraq) is going on right now.

The true achievements of the Eisenhower administration were the Interstate Highway System and the Civil Rights Acts of 1957 and 1960...
