Goldfish are scavenger omnivores which means they'll eat just about anything.

You should feed a high-quality pellet 3-4 times per week. Hikari makes a very good one. Goldfish have nutritional needs that are difficult to reproduce without the aid of nutritionally engineered foods.

Here are some additional foods to feed your fish:

Live (1-2 times per week max)

Small pin-head crickets (yes, goldies eat them)
wax worms
glass worms
Blood worms
meal worms
earth worms (chopped)
wingless fruit flies

Freeze dried foods:
Krill
Bloodworms
Tubifex
Brine shrimp

Frozen:
Mysis Shrimp
Brine Shrimp
Blood worms
Formula 2 (spirulina)
..any kelp or spirulina based food

Table foods:
frozen, thawed corn, carrots, peas (chopped)
boiled egg white
blanched spinach, kale, endive
canned clams, drained (water packed only)
Sushi Nori (can be clipped inside tank with veggie clip)

Moderation is key to feeding goldfish. Only feed twice per day maximum and only what they will eat in 2 minutes. I highly recommend skipping a day between feedings to encourage a goldfish's natural bottom feeding instincts.

Hope this helps

Let's get this straight - Goldfish are NOT vegetarians!
Goldfish are fish - fish eat whatever is in the water that is edible, including live and dead insects, worms, slugs, snails minus shells, plant materials like leaves, some algae, insect larvae, one-celled organisms, swimming things, and sometimes they filter poop on the bottom for food mixed up in the sediment.
Only humans infer, imply, and assume their pets wish to be vegetarians like themselves, but the truth is fish love insects and worms the best. They'll eat the the plants in the fish tank, and go for mosquito larvae with equal gusto.
Try throwing a moth or swatted fly into the tank and see what happens. I'll bet 20-1 you get an instant hit.

Please feed your gold fish good store bought gold fish food. I have 'tropical fish' and feed them gold fish flakes, and they are growing and very healthy ... and gold fish are OMNIVOROUS, not vegetarians ... and the 'pellets' and flakes are both 'vitamin an mineral balanced' and VERY GOOD for your fish. Your 'lemon and plants' may KILL your goldfish since you can't 'balance' the vitamins they need easily. The food is not 'fake' ... it's simply 'processed' so it is dry and doesn't stink, and the fish can eat it easily. If you want, you can buy frozen blood worms and frozen brine shrimp to give them as treats, but goldfish really do NEED their 'commercial fish food' to eat every day or two.

I hope you mean goldfish food. I have a beta that I keep in a tank with my tropical fish and I only feed it tropical fish food. So it probably will eat goldfish food.

Goldfish are actually omnivores, eating what's available. One great food for most fish is "well-rinsed, canned, sliced green beans". These are nutritious and inexpensive. Other similar foods will be taken, and yo can throw in frozen brine shrimp now and then.

It is said that goldfish will eat "anything". But I recommend you do not go by this!!! Go to the local pet store and look for freeze dried worms or shrimp. Good luck;)
