I have no idea what can be wrong. My sound stopped working after I reformatted my disk, and when I tried to install AC97 again, it doesn't install no more. But, lasst time when disk for reformatted, AC97 worked, becuz I downloaded Real Player, and I prbly downloaded some patch or something. Can some1 pelase help me, because I dont have sound for a week already! THX IF YOU CAN!

Try updating the soundcard drivers. I had a problem with it but it wasn't because it wasn't making any sound it became very staticy. Also make sure you remember to plug in the speakers, it's not on mute, or turn the volume up.

Try deleting the device from the device manager (assuming Windows). Then reboot. Let Windows try to install the software when it "finds new hardware".

try following the EXACT chipset on the computer. there is infact more than one ac 97 and not all work.
